Spurs ?

I know, I know, just go get a book on BP,,I'm too cheap....
Are spurs an indication of the sex of the snake ?

Depends on species.... You could also read info sheets online and get just as much as you would in a book...

I would not use spurs as any indication of the sex of a ball python. I say this because, although males normally have more prominent spurs, I do have females that have larger spurs than some males. Perhaps this is due to the pure size advantage of the females. I would first suggest cloacal probing of the animal. When doing so, typically males have a greater probing depth of around 8-10 ventral scales while females have a very shallow probing depth of around 2-3 ventral scales. Also, I can suggest cloacal popping of the animal to display either hemipenes of a male or caudal scent glands of a female. There are plenty of videos on how to do either of these methods, and I do recommend you are very careful if you attempt either of these methods as to not harm the animal.
