Help neede re: female Jackson's

jenstorm Sep 21, 2003 11:11 AM

Hi,
I posted a couple of weeks ago about my unexpected baby Jackson's. They were born about 2 1/2 weeks ago, but today at the bottom of the parents cage there was another egg (yellowish in color) and a baby (dead, unfortunately) sort of halfway out.

Why would this be happening over 2 weeks later? The female acts a little weird...low appetite and skinny since the babies were born. Her color seems fine and she is active.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, all the babies are doing well!

Thanks in advance,

Jennifer

Jennifer-

Female Jackson's are know to store sperm, and once they breed, they continuously keep producing offspring. Being live bearing, the babies take time to produce. They also lay slugs, which is an unfertilized egg (yellow). Why you got a baby two weeks later, is a good question. My guess would be she had trouble getting it out during the day/days all the others came out. She should start eating like a pig, after she lays all her babies. Jackson females are good at hiding the fact they are gravid, so getting one that was gravid is no real surprise. Best of luck with her and all the babies!
