OT - Healthcare for reptiles!!!!!!

ARKON Mar 18, 2010 11:14 PM

We need universal veterinarian care. Its the reptiles right. I hear stories every day of poor reptiles that can not afford veterinarian care. Everyday 10 million animals lose thier veterinarian benefits. The madness has to stop.

Maybe Obama will tack it onto his bill for you.

Cheers,
Mike.

People have died and are dying daily in and for this country. If you don't believe me than walk through Arlington Cemetary or past the Wall in DC. My father served two tours in Vietnam and I was raised to support my nation no matter what. This political humor is not funny or fair. It is insulting and has no business on this monitor forum. Stay on topic or get off the forum. By the way SHvar is right...- Mike S

With all do respect politcal humor is not funny to you, but you are one person; also, its a joke of a subject so I made a joke about it. Lets just make this more of an entitlement society; paying for other people to screw up. Thats what this subject would do.

If you cant afford to take care of them (go to a vet), or to do it right (husbandry, dilligance); dont do it at all. Could you imagine what kind of crap that system would have to payfor, remember universal is universal...EVERYONE GETS TO USE THIS. This encourages poor husbandry.

Keep your cool,
Mike.

Too bad that you don't understand. Keep it to yourself or take it elsewhere. Not here. Nothing cool about it... Remember, we are here to talk lizards- stay on topic or get off. - Mike S

Actually, we do allow OT discussions. While the vast majority of the discussions here are monitor based, we are a community and foster the community spirit. Off topic discussions allow people to get to know each other a bit better (sometimes good sometimes bad) and create a more social feel. Which is what kingsnake is. A social community for reptile keepers to engage in reptile related discussions as well as foster relationships.

In the future however, OT discussions should contain the letter OT in the header to refer to off topic. That way members who do not want to look at something off topic can merely skip it.

Yeah I want my self entitled reptile healthcare...NOW! lol

OK, If you don't like it don't reply. It's annoying when people complain about topics, It's a forum; post to what you want and don't post if you don't want to. You are not the MOD.

LOL Actually yes, really. I am the site Coordinator.

But as I stated there is leeway for Off Topic Discussions as long as personal attacks or other TOS Violations do not ensue.

If you cannot pay an expected expense such as a vet bill then you have no business having the pet, period. Any owner with any level of experience knows vet bills (sometimes big ones) are a normal expected expense, just like food, caging, heat, substrates, etc.

StevenOrndorff Mar 20, 2010 11:20 AM

I've actually seen where people can buy health insurance for their dogs. I don't know if it is availible for reptiles or not. It's a bit outragous if you ask me. And the reason so many people can't afford to take their pet to the vet is the same reason so many people can't afford to go to the doctor. A friend of mine got the flu this winter and went to the doc. It cost him around $700. To walk in talk to a guy for a bit and have a perscription filled! I don't think we need mandatory health care. But their should be some price regulation for health care. Human and animal. Insurance companys only have to pay 20-30% so why is it so high for us? Sorry bout the rant

nevermind Mar 20, 2010 01:42 PM

It is sky high mostly because of illegal aliens and trial lawyers bringing up doctors and hospitals on frivolous lawsuits. Of course those aren't all the reasons but they are the two big ones. But of course they don't even address those problems in this massive health care joke bill.

StevenOrndorff Mar 21, 2010 09:09 PM

You nailed it, but it sucks that i end up screwed

WRC1228 Mar 23, 2010 06:00 PM

So, nobody should have a life if they can't afford healthcare? Or is it just different with Reptiles?

nevermind Mar 23, 2010 08:35 PM

There are systems in place for the truly needy.

mckenzieriverrep Mar 25, 2010 10:17 PM

You are not going to die without healthcare. Food is more important; so let's give everyone food, then housing, then cloths, THEN healthcare. OR we could just not be socialist?? Brilliant! Let's not be socialist!

The middle class shall be destroyed.

stevenorndorff Mar 26, 2010 04:47 PM

Yeah there are systems for people who don't work. When I was unemployed i applied for medicaid and food stamps and was denied. They said the $998 a month i get for my daughter and myself (survivors benifits) put me over the income limit. But health care for me is several hundred a month. My mother can get it for $40 since she works for a large company and they get discounts.

nevermind Mar 28, 2010 08:27 AM

I go back to illegal aliens and trial lawyers. It is expensive (mostly) because of them.

SHvar Mar 29, 2010 11:13 AM

Or the subject.
You as a keeper are 100% responsible for all care your pets require, therefore a responsible keeper plans ahead and does not keep things they cannot afford to do so.
Im sorry but its normal for a keeper to spend hundreds on food for their pets, hundreds on caging/containment, so vet bills are an expected expense, that tells me they are included in what you need to plan on spending at any time.
Examples Ive spent thousands on caging, food, and animals themselves over the years, guess what Ive also spent thousands on my pets vet bills. My monitors are the least expensive of my pets when it comes to the vet, but still expensive.
So if you wanna play, you gotta pay. Cant afford them, dont get them, be responsible.
