That is a albino not Ivory but an ivory is somewhat of a type of albinism from what i have gathered.

Ivoy tortoises are lucistic(sp?) right? which is a form of the gene that causes albinism.. so technically you could call it an albino(an ivory)

An Ivory tortoise just has the white pigment of albinism. It is like a snow. The Fake ivories just have the white but have brown around the scutes. An albino I guess ranges from white to yellow from what I have seen.An Ivory doesnt have red eyes either any true albino anything has red eyes.Like my rats that I used to breed. They were albino because they had only pink skin but had red eyes and white hair.

lucistics' usually have blue/black eyes, I've seen pics of very light Ivories with blue pigment around the eye, I think all these names for different colors are whacked, why not just call them lucistic? oh well guess it's to late to re-name em huh?

Mafia187turtle Sep 21, 2003 02:58 PM

I dont know we can just call them what we need to.Not to many people have them and I was looking forward to teepee posting his thats ashame that he died but I appreciate everybody replying and I am still wondering if anybody knows where I could get one.I am going to name it TeePee because He was one of the first people to help me on this forum.

more accurately described as hypomelanistic - which simply translates to having less melanin than the standard variety. An ivory tortoise has some melanin, that is why its eyes are not red. But an ivory tortoise obviously has less melanin than a "fake ivory tortoise."

Think of it like budgies - a normal budgie is green. A blue budgie has less melanin than a green budgie, a yellow budgie has less melanin than a blue budgie, a white budgie has less melanin than a yellow budgie and an albino budgie has no melanin at all.
