chamfun2003 Sep 21, 2003 12:32 PM

My AMBANJA panthers are a little over a year old. My female has been showing her pink colors for about 2 weeks. I put the male into the females cage he wondered around the cage for a while. The female approched him puffed up and then lunged and tried to bite his side.....my ? is are panthers usally aggrisive while breeding or was she just telling him to get out of her space.

Dude... That means she ain't ready yet. try again in a week or a couple of days. If she is ready, she willingly lets him mound her. So you'dd know when she is ready.

Hi-

If she is pink, that usually means she is receptive. I don't put males into female cages, I put females into male cages. Some females will put up a little fight by moving away from him, but if she is trying to bit him, she is not receptive. Try putting the female into the males cage about a week after you last introduced them. Hope this helps!

Yeah I agree with putting the female in the males cage. At least then she knows she's the non-resident and she won't be as territorial. The male can sometimes get rough too so keep an eye on them, but even the most receptive females will at least walk away a little bit once the male heads her way. The males usually will follow them around the cage a bit before the females give up and just let it happen (sounds a little like humans LOL). Give it a shot and if not, give it a little time. With my veileds, she wouldn't breed with him until I put their screen cages face to face for a few hours and after that I slowly introduced them (so I didn't startle either one) and it all worked perfectly. Try that too if everything else fails.
