Just sharing pics of my first Milk...

chrisdrake Mar 20, 2010 08:38 PM

I've been looking through this forum from front to back looking at all the NA milks and decided to get my first red milk. It is an 09' just shed and ate a pinky no problem. I was amazed at how tiny it was when it got here. I know the parents were from Kansas but do not know what county. I do believe I'm hooked. Here are a few quick pics. Let me know what you think. Chris

First alterna and now this....nice man. Missed you at the meeting last night, it was a good one.
Hope to see you soon buddy. The season is right around the corner!

chrisdrake Mar 20, 2010 09:21 PM

Jason and Mr. Wells. I need to stop procrastinating and join the ETHS. The alterna are doing well by the way. I would really like to pair her up with the nice red hypo syspila on the classifieds but I keep getting dirty looks from the wife. lol.

if you don't join soon, the same banditos that took Eric on a wild ride through Mexico will pay you a visit as well. They heard you had a nice truck....LOL. So join today!!
Glad the alterna are doing well.

chrisdrake Mar 20, 2010 09:31 PM

OH NO! Not the banditos.. lol.

Nathan Wells Mar 20, 2010 09:32 PM

Since Mr. Austin isn't a real estate tycoon anylonger, he won't have any excuses not to hit alternaland with us this year. I am planning on spending at least week a June.

chrisdrake Mar 20, 2010 09:34 PM

Nathan,Mike Davis and I have been talking about the weekend before Memorial Day. I tried calling you the other day but didn't get a call back to see if you were interested.

Chris

Nathan Wells Mar 20, 2010 09:44 PM

Leave a message? Sorry I missed the call, probably changing diapers...LOL. I'll be down in South Texas around that time with Dave Niles looking for L.t. annulata.
Drop me an email or call tomorrow and we can discuss further. Let's keep the forum moderators happy.
Again, nice milk snake...it only goes down hill from here.

chrisdrake Mar 20, 2010 09:46 PM

sounds good. Does the milk look like LTT to you? Joe has me worried now. lol

joecop Mar 20, 2010 09:28 PM

Nice snake. Far be it for me to question anything but that sure does look like an LTT to me.

chrisdrake Mar 20, 2010 09:32 PM

I sure hope your wrong Joe. lol. It was sold to me as syspila.

Chris

bobassetto Mar 21, 2010 11:59 AM

looks like a temporalis to me .......but it probably is sysplia x triangulum.....my thoughts.....snakes like this throw gasoline on the "what is a temporalis" discussion.....its a nice snake...

chrisdrake Mar 21, 2010 01:51 PM

Hey Bob, I think you are right on the syspila x triangulum cross or just triangulum. After doing alot of looking around it does look more like some of the juvie easterns I've seen posted on this forum. The markings on the face lead me to believe this. I am a little upset that I bought a syspila and got something else. If it is pure LTT i'm fine with that but I do not like hybrids. Sorry to hear about Vader by the way.

Chris

joecop Mar 21, 2010 04:01 PM

Chris, your snake looks like a very nice LTT to me. I have hatched them out and caught several that look a lot like yours. The red milks that I have seen and had look different to me. Others here have much more experience then I do and could probably tell you. Nice looking snake no matter what. Here is a baby syspila I have.

Now for a baby LTT.

chrisdrake Mar 21, 2010 04:08 PM

Hey Joe, I did see some of the easterns you and others had posted last year and she does look alot like some that were posted on the thread smoking easterns. I'm a little dissapointed and trying to contact the person I got it from but as long as she is pure eastern I'm okay with that. Now I know I need a male triangulum to pair her up with and not a syspila. Thanks for your help. I did email Cole last night to see if he agrees. Chris

PeeBee Mar 21, 2010 10:07 PM

Joe,

I agree.

Although it's possible that its an intergrade, the pattern screams Ltt to me. V shaped neck blotch, high blotch count, squarish head, lateral secondary blotches (also found in syspila, but more common in Ltt)and neck constriction are all Ltt traits.

I think its true identity (Ltt) will become apparent as it grows.

That's a beautiful animal, no doubt about it. However, it does appear to have at least a little nominate triangulum (Eastern Milk) influence in it. That may or may not be the case, though. I have syspila from the heart of their range that have the characteristic nuchal blotch connected to the head-cap. It just happens sometimes. The other options (aside from being an aberrant syspila) include being a nicely colored nominate triangulum or being descended from animals collected in an intergrade zone (parts of Iowa, for example). I seriously doubt that it would be a man-made cross. If anything, it's likely to be a natural intergrade. I'd suggest trying to get photos of any siblings to your critter by contacting the breeder. Post anything you find up here, and the lot of us will try to sort it out!

Regardless, it's a nice looking animal.

Thanks for the response Cole. I do agree regardless she is a goodlooking animal. I just hope I can get ahold of the original breeder. The guy I got her from on the classifieds said the breeder is in Florida. Just waiting for an email back. Thanks again.

Chris

bobassetto Mar 21, 2010 04:45 PM

check out some of the dorsal blotches.....they touch the belly scutes....to me that is a result of the sysplia influence.......all the pure easterns i've seen....the dorsal blotches don't touch the belly and have regular lateral blotch pattern......this guy's lateral blotches are irregular....i agree its a natural intergrade.....

chrisdrake Mar 21, 2010 05:04 PM

Supposedly the parents were from Kansas. That integrade wouldn't occur in Kansas would it? I know syspila range into eastern Kansas but triangulum don't do they?

Yes, if the parents are from KS it would rule out L.t.t. Looks very L.t.t. to me, but I have very little syspila experience.

Haha Joe. Everyone agrees that is a goodlooking snake and like it but no one is quite sure what it is lol. Hopefully I'll get some more info in the days to come.
