Hey Aubrey...

Paul_D Mar 21, 2010 06:33 AM

I was just rereading some old posts and I came across this one:
forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1742330,1742330

I was hoping you could give us an update on how things turned out, and possibly some updated pictures. The pearl below really caught my eye.

Hi Paul, sorry for the delayed response to your post.

That litter had 5 healthy babies, as the other two in the sacs did not make it. The one in the picture you posted was the best Pearl I have ever seen, both in color and in perfect circles on the sides. With each shed she would wow me even more. Unfortunately she passed away for no apparent reason. She was eating, growing, pooping, shedding, biting... everything you would hope for in a baby BRB. I was incredibly heartbroken when she died, and baffled as to what the cause could be.

I have since sold off two of them and the other two are still here doing mighty fine. Figures that the best one is always the one you lose isn't it? Oh well, perhaps I will get another.

Here is a post-shed picture of that female. I have more pics somewhere, but I can't seem to find them right now.

Looks like you're a night person like me. I'm sooo sorry she died. She was an exceptional animal. With as many snakes as you have, how attached do you get to individual animals?

Thanks, she will be missed.

You'd be surprised how many of my critters I am attached to. I even surprise myself! Lately I have been giving some thought into downsizing some of my more "normal" animals, but I am having a hard time letting any of them go. Recently I made a very very difficult decision to let go one of my first BRBs. When the couple come to pick him up, I may get a few tears in my eyes.

I guess I just get too emotional a lot of the time, lol.

I only have 8, which isn't anywhere close to your stunning collection, but I do my best to give them the same kind of care and attention as when I only had one. It's good to see you still have your passion, even with all your critters Do you still take some of them out to play with them, aside from just cleaning time and stuff?

Occassionally I take them out just for fun, but probably not as often as I should. I have a couple spitfires that I probably should have handled more as they grew, lol.

No, I had a similar thing happen last year. A baby had died for no apparent reason, and I did take it in to get a necropsy done. Nothing was conclusive, however.

I figure it was something I did but didn't realize, or there was some congenital defect. Who knows.
