Just found out my leo laid an egg

VTEC May 25, 2003 07:14 PM

I just got a female from a friend that I pretty much was sure she was pregnant. I set up a humid hide for her to lay in and was expecting her to be laying in there. Today I was checking out her enclosure and I picked up her cave just to check things out and I found an egg. It has a little dent on the top and bottom and it has a little weight to it. How can I tell if it's alive or not. I put it in a plastic tupperware type of container on moist paper towels under a heat lamp in her tank. Any other pointers anyone can give me?

Do you have a thermometer in the container?
If not..that heat lamp cant get PRETTY hot..you might want to consider that.
Also..if your looking into buying an incubator..you can get a fairly cheap one from a local feedstore for around $35-$45.
Or you can buy one online.
I personally have never purchased one online, but maybe someone else can help you out with that.
I bought a hovabator for hatching chicken eggs from a feedstore...the name brand is Little Giant.
It has worked well for me so far, besides a few temperature fluctuations which havent caused any damage to any of my eggs.
Another method you could use is to either set up your own incubator inside of a fish tank or styraphoam container, and use an underwater heater for heat.
I have never done this myself..but Ive heard good and bad things about them.
I hope this helped...do a search on some homemade incubators if that is the way you want to go.
And good luck!!

I can get one for 40 bucks online..heres a pic

The egg is dented on the top and bottom.. I held it by a light and noticed an orangeyellowish mass inside of it. What are the odds of it being alive.. I found it laying in her hide and not sure how long its been there (no more than 8 hours)
