Tokays?

Tumtum03 Sep 21, 2003 01:07 PM

I am new to this species, but I have a question for ya out there who breed or have these guys. I have Crested Geckos, which I am about to start breeding as soon as they come to age, and I have also owned many different species of gecko! My question is how hard are these guys to tame? Do they make good pets? Every species of lizard I have had I haven't had much trouble taming them them or gettting them use to me but I hear alot of people speak bad about these guys, but I think they are beautiful species of gecko that gets a bad rap. If I where to get one as a baby, how hard would it be do ya think to get him use to me to hold him at all, or would it be possible? Are these guys just nasty by nature? Any info I would appreciate from people who have had these guys and know alot about them!! Sorry if I have dumb questions about these guys but like I said before, I don't know anything about these guys.

It is natural for them to not like being handled. If you want to try taming one you need to be sure it is CB and young. They will trust you more and more as they get older but I think its important to start handling while young. They can administer a nasty bite. I handled my hatchling alot and they dont like being caught but once out and your not containing them in anyway they do just fine. it takes a lot of patience cause their very fast and can jump a good distance.

At that size if your not sure if there CB or WC and your not familar with them as they to you I would def be wearing gloves and be prepared for them to escape if you let copletely go of them. I just release mine on my hands, arm or shoulder but they are very used to it. got my 6 month on me right now.

Both male and female tokays get a lot bigger then that. My female is just under 12 inches and ive heard males can reach 14 inches or so!
