I have had a sumatran water now for about 6 months and barely have seen him and for the first time today he came out and ate his rodents right off the tongs in front of me and then came walking up to me looking like hey is there more lol.... the bond is slowly building... no real point to this just got excited lol...

Congrats! That's always exciting. I recently had a similar experience with a group of Timors I've been raising.
