Fatal Attraction - Rebuttal

EricWI Mar 25, 2010 11:59 PM

In the United States, from the years 1990 to 2008, the odds of being killed by a captive big cat or exotic cat in one year's time are 1.1 chances in 276,636,363*. There were 45,343 traffic deaths in a year's time. Being killed by a non-human primate during the same period of time there were no deaths so the chances were 0-0**. Murder and non-negligent manslaughter resulted in 16,692 deaths per year.

The odds of death or serious injury by exotic pet are so minuscule, though this certainly is not how it is portrayed by the media and assuredly not Animal Planet's Fatal Attraction. These are single, isolated incidents.

Why does the media including Animal Planet blow these rare events out of proportion? To attempt to add some credibility to their personal agenda and their personal agenda is downright scary folks.

Fatal Attraction is another obvious political attempt to control people and animals. Partners*** Animal Planet and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) by my perspective, these two partners seemingly have the same agenda as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

HSUS is an animal rights group (completely end the use and ownership of animals) not an animal welfare organization (work for the humane treatment of animals). They are bloated lobbying machines to take away our pets; in addition, out to put ranchers and farmers out of business. Maybe you will take heed when cattle pastures, dairy farms, sheep ranchers replace their animals with carrots and peaches. "Nearly 1 million Americans donate money to HSUS every year. And most are completely unaware that they're bankrolling PETA-style propaganda, far-reaching anti-meat campaigns, a huge staff of lawyers and bloated pension plans for HSUS executives," from michiganfarmbureau.com a publication of the Michigan Farm Bureau.

The animal rights groups are targeting any form of animal husbandry don't be fooled this includes dogs and cats. Exotic pet owners are fewer in numbers and much easier targets.

The supposed reptile attack by monitor lizards, of Ronald Huff from Newark, Delaware, age 42 at the time of death (2002), is doubtful. The death by lizard theory is unlikely because there were no reports of human fatalities caused by non domestic animals in Delaware in-between the years 1999-2004 (CDC records). The reptiles were feeding on a body of an already dead person, as with any carnivorous/omnivorous animal, including squirrels, they will feed on dead carcasses.

Alexandria Hall from North College Hill Ohio, age 44 at the time of death, died in 2004 of an urutu viper - urutu pit viper bite. She was given the wrong antivenom.

I saw no creditable testimonies in Animal Plant's broadcast. No family members were willing, not asked, or flat-out refused to be interviewed. I hardly call a disgruntled ex-husband a creditable source.

Josephine Martell, program director, the so called exotic expert has no right to diagnose people as having mental problems; Martell has no medical license. Personally, if I was a family member of one of these two victims I would consider action against Animal Planet. Martell is paid by both IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare,) and Captive Wildlife Coalition. Martell is nothing more than an Animal Rights Activist, and has no credentials or licenses to practice medicine.

Do these animal rights groups have something other than animal rights on their powerful little minds? You better believe it...the almighty dollar.

All of us have to file taxes each year and the HSUS does too. In 2008 $4.7 million was granted, half of which went to political lobbying. They filed four pages specifying lobbying activities at the federal and state levels. Only $450,000 went to hands-on animal care facilities', one half of one percent of its yearly budget of 90 million. This year their budget is closing in at approaching $100 million. The fact is the HSUS does not own one single animal shelter in the United States. Just because local shelters have humane society in their title, they are not affiliated with the HSUS in anyway.

Recently, Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) announced the launch of a watchdog group to oversee the activities of the HSUS – the organization HumaneWatch.org. Independent watchdogs become necessary when an organization becomes unaccountable, overfunded with funding obviously not going toward the purpose of the original intent. "HSUS now has an annual budget around the size of an NFL payroll. It has become too big and too unaccountable. Someone has to pay closer attention," according to HumaneWatch.org's website.

Reptile breeders have made remarkable achievements, especially in the last decade in captive-bred reptiles; producing healthier and hardier animals. They have been able to induce reproduction in captivity. There are hundreds of thousands of reptiles (captive-bred) and reptile owners (responsible) if not millions worldwide.

At one time the HSUS seemed to be an organization we could believe in. This persona unfortunately still exists in people's minds but not in reality. It is now nothing more than a well-funded bureaucratic organization. They make you believe that these funds go to your local humane societies, which is not true.

They are after your sympathy with these rare incidences displayed in TV shows, your sympathy in their TV ads so they can add to their already bloated budgets.

The point being, this show was aired to influence politics. Animal Planet did nothing to bring awareness to animal welfare or responsible animal care.

It will be interesting to watch their propaganda on the next episode about big cats. I may have a comment or two.

We need to boycott their sponsors. As I've said many times, take away the money and they will die.

I calling you that jokingly. It is a reference to the rock preachers of years past. Being a semi professional musician for many years I am very aware that controversy is an excellent advertising campaign. KISS, Madonna, Marylin Manson, WASP, Motley Crue, and many others even the Beatles (remember the "more popular than Jesus Christ'Quote?) have used controversy to generate a type of free advertising that can't be bought and quite frankly is better than any advertising you could buy.
Anytime someone in one of these bands did something that could be viewed as "satanic" or contrary to christian views there would be an army of preachers screaming about for several sundays to a captive audience full of rebellious teenagers forced to go to church by parents they would love to tick off. You can guess what albums they will be buying. This even goes on today the latest one is "I kissed a girl" by Katy perry. Being a lead player in a female fronted bar band I cringe everytime I here one of the preachers in my church rally against this song. It gives extended life to a cheesy song that I wish would go away.
The real point to this post (and a previous one I posted on here.) however is a parallel analogy to the point I just made. EVERY TIME one of these shows comes on you people watch it not only do you watch it but you come on here and just like those preachers you rally on about it and lots of people who read this post will ultimately end up watching the show either because the idea outrages them or just out of curiousity.
Calling advertisers and telling them you aren't going to buy their product does not work btw. What it tells them is that you actually watched the show and their advertising campaign is working. If you don't believe call radio talk show host Neal Boortz and ask him. He is a very controversial radio talk show host who has people lobby that exact threat against him all the time. He actually had one of his advertisers on his show once who told people exactly what I just stated about the threats of not buying their product.
With the current technology out there for cable and sattlelite dishes and the computerized boxes they have the data on what you are watching and even what you are putting on your dvr and watching later on. It is these numbers that stations base their decisions on as to what programs they carry and it is also these numbers which advertisers use to determine where their advertising money goes.
While certain people involved with these shows do have an agenda the bottom line is these type of shows are extremely cheap to produce and give the tv channel the biggest bang for the buck. If you want to stop such programming stop watching it altogether and for God's -sake stop screaming about them on here and giving them free advertising.

Michael,

Not necessarily...Their "sponsors" are not the source of their money...HSUS is the benefactor of the IRS tax code (as are virtually every foundation and 501(c)(3) organization)...Their money (operating and lobbying funds-a 501(c)(3) can do some lobbying or their 501(c)(4) "action fund" will) are tax deductions for the "for profit" businesses that make contributions to them.

Also, as 501(c)(3), they are eligible for tax payer funded grants as well...And then there are the "in-kind" contributions (not actual money but equipment and services).

Besides their "sponsors" include Hollywood (HSUS has a Hollywood office) and actors and actresses want to get the air time as they do with many other "ECO" issues...I saw Jessica Beal on David Letterman last night talking about her Mount Kilimanjaro climb to promote "awareness for water in the third world countries"...So, the only recourse, as a consumer to truly boycott the sponsors of HSUS is to turn off your TV and never see of rent a movie again. As a voter, change the face of the elected politicians so that there cacn be a change in the tax code to stop the real source of their money...

The tax loophole is that they are classified as an "educational" entity...The same as religious...We both know that they are doing is NOT "educational" at all...Rather, its merely "propaganda" disguised as educational science...

Later,
Jim.

HSUS -- This is the really bad thing. They get both 3c and 4c?

Not a religion, a cult.lol

Fatal Attractions show was crap. But your wrong about why she died. She died because she did not tell the medical staff that it was a Urutu like they said in the show. Also she had an unknown health problem that lead to her bleeding into the brain. She said it was a pitviper so being in Ohio they gave CroFab which did stop her bleeding but at 72 hours they did not check for bleeding and give another dose. Both the doctors and the victim did something that lead to the out come. The court system found that the victim was more to blame for her death then the hospital and the lawsuit against the hospital and doctors was dropped.
TV always takes short cuts. Keepers of venomous snakes can not afford to take short cuts and should have a written protocal and antivenom. Then you can blame someone if they don't treat you right. Showing up at a hosptial with a snakebite is rare and most doctors have never seen one.And don't know how to treat the victim, whose to blame for the doctor not knowing you have an exotic snake?
As far as AP and PETA go keepers need to not give more fuel for the fire by doing careless and reckless actions. If you have a plan and nothing goes wrong at the hospital plus you are keeping the animals legally(She was not. She also had atimber which is protected in Ohio) then the hospital can not by law release information about your case to the media. Police ourselves or be policed by others. I believe in permit systems but its hard to get the general public behind you when people are doing stupid things that put a bullseye on us.

Also more people keep dogs then people keep venomous snakes and CDC records all dog incidents as an attack the involves the breaking of skin. CDC does not require that snakebite be reported so it maybe very much under reported. What
I am saying is stats don't always show the full picture and we should just point out that snakebite is rare. Also avoid the statement thatb no one but a keeper has been bitten by a venomous snake in their care because it is far from true.

Best way to change TV is what I have done and stop watching it.

I agree with everything you said above , Jim-except that last one, because I happen to know you're like me, and don't have time to watch TV, anyway!
