That thing really is ghostly! Is there such a thing as a 'super ghost'?

Thank you Amy.
You know, I was tempted to call it a super ghost, but I guess that would be achieved with extreme hypo genetics????
Or would that be an extreme ghost?
Anyway, I am very proud of it
David

DMong Mar 27, 2010 11:43 PM

Yes, the one's that have the drastically reduced melanin and ruby-red eyes from the "extreme" hypo gene are referred to as "extreme ghosts", such as the one pictured below.

Yours however is a VERY nice example of a vanishing pattern(V/P) ghost.

Do you know the genetics behind the parents??? Is either parent showing the "vanishing" trait?? Again-very nice!

davidfabius Mar 28, 2010 03:46 PM

Thank you all for your words.
Neither parent is VP, although I suspect that the sire, which is a very clean ghost, has the genetics as it sired a very nice ghost by another female last year. That one looked like a whiteside as the bands didnt reach the sides

David, here is the grandmother of your v.p ghost.I produced her in (02) and she is still gowing strong.I sold some offspring to John that where from her and I assured him that they had the v.p. gene in them and just wished him the best of luck.It looks like it paid off for you.Congrats and great looking baby there. They just keeop getting better.

davidfabius Mar 29, 2010 07:10 AM

Shannon, as I said in my first post of this thread, I knew they came from you, but thanks a lot for the precise information, this is awesome genetics you are working with!!!
It looks like the sire is enough to work the miracle??
Although both females which produced vp, for all I know, are also from the same stock.
You may recall that last year I produced a good one, too, from another female

Congrats!

Talk about getting a jump on the breeding season!

When do you do your X-mas shopping, JULY? HA!

I'm jealous man!

Rusty,.....

I believe he mentioned in another previous post that he lives in another country(different hemisphere) so his seasons are exact opposite of ours.

OK, that makes MUCH more sense to me now! Thanks to you both for keeping me straight!

I think I remember seeing some cool stuff that you (David) produced a few years back?

-Rusty

davidfabius Mar 30, 2010 09:31 PM

Not sure, Rusty, I also post sometimes in the Kingsnakes Forum,I posted a bunch of babies a few months ago, nothing unusual but I liked the melanistic calkings, my flagship are the super pied mussuranas, black head, white body, I have been working on them for well over 20 years now

These guys are awesome little snake eaters!

I caught one many years ago in Costa Rica...I didn't know what it was at the time...it looked like a Krait!

I caught it at night...so I brought it into my hotel room and put it in the shower...used my sister's hair barrette and saw it was "rear fanged"...it was a very cool snake.

Ever been bitten? What's the reaction like?

-Rusty

davidfabius Apr 02, 2010 10:05 AM

well, I was almost bitten, a young female grabbed my finger, DID NOT EVEN SINK A TOOTH, and gently let go.It was just a mistake for her! And it shows the snakes character.
Some cb babies may get conditioned and when you open the lid its feeding time and they try to bite whatevers in the way.
But I never had any reaction and real few bites. They are the snakes I like the most.
