Sick Newt & Possibly a pregnant Newt

BeccaJo May 25, 2003 07:25 PM

I have had my newts for 2 months now and my male has never really been in that great of health because he doesn't seem to like any food I've given them recently I tried guppies but then started to notice he was beginning to get thinner and developed white spots on his stomach that were red around the outside kind of like a cancor sore or ulcer. I quarentied him from my other newt in a tank I filled with three inches of water so the bacteria couldn't survive I have also been cleaning the sores with perioxide and ointment and orally giving him Electrolytes. I am just really worried and wanted to know if there was anything else I could do or if I should stop any of the things Ive been trying.

Also I have a female who I think may be prenant, but I am not sure on how to know for sure

Try feeding with a tweezers. Pieces of chopped earhtworm are the best, but frozen bloodworms might do the trick. You could also try some live blackworms in the quarantine tank (assuming there is no gravel for them to hide in). For more advice on feeding, see FAQs at link below.

When you say "pregnant" do you mean swollen? How swollen? There is a condition called bloat.
