Ever seen anything like this?

LoKii Mar 28, 2010 06:11 PM

So was at the local reptile store and saw this awsome looking rhino! He is young, and was the last one they had. I noticed a red looking spot on his leg and asked about it at the shop. At first I thought it might be some sort of skin infection. The guys at the shop asured me it was not and that he had shed multiple times and that it was just part of his pigmentation. I was hestitant to purchase this animal, but after watching him eat, and act normal and looking closely at the spot, decided to take a chance and purchase him. So now my question is, what do you all think? I tried to get some good pics of it in natural light and in artificial light. The spot does not appear to affect him at all and causes no pain when i touch it and etc. He eats great and looks healthy overall! So is it pigmentation? a burn? a skin infection or rash? Any opinions are welcomed. Thanks

ask the owner of the shop where he got it from. maybe you can trace him to his parents and see if its a genetic thing

Omg he's sooooooo adorable. That is the reason I can't go into local reptile stores! lol

(hopefully he wasn't just laying on a strawberry...you should name it strawberry. )

It possibly could have been marked with a permanent red ink marker. I have heard of weirder thing happening.

So it doesn't look like a skin infection or condition? I appreciate all the feed back

I can't wait to find out after the first shed....

its like a "mystery suprise"

names? Name it Ruby.

and then of course it will probably be a male.

Lokii Mar 30, 2010 08:38 PM

hmm...I like ruby as well..but we all ready have a fish named ruby, that my daughter named, so it may not work! I am waiting for his first shed too, although I think its his natural color because he has a alot of red high lights on his arms and on his neck, while the rest of him has alot of blue on him. I would really love to find out who his breeder was. All they could tell me at store was it was guy from florida..they didn't remember the name.

On another note this guy's personality is awsome, He eats out of hand like its nothing, super calm, not really flighty and loves Mazuri and his greens. I mean his appetite is just awsome! I have had a few lizards in the past and never had a baby lizard act like this guy does. He is not skittish at all, more curious then anything! I will post some new pics with in the next couple of days!

It looks like a stain, and I will bet that it goes away with the next shed, or two. That also looks like a female to me, if you are wondering about the sex.

I was wondering about the sex, but was under the impression it was to early to tell. Thanks
