what's the most expensive morph?

megalon Mar 29, 2010 07:05 PM

ok,not to give anyone the wrong impression, but i only like aussie pythons.i personally feel that balls are essentially psuedopythons, just short, dumpy blobs.i remember when they were all imported, and the most you would ever pay for a ball was like $50 for a ginormous one.now,my friends are starting to get into them, one poor sucker just dropped almost a grand on a ball."it's a pied",he said."no,you just blew a grand on a short dumpy choad of a snake",i replied."you coulda got a diamond python for that, and if you breed them, the prices will remain stable for the foreseeable future".sadly,he does not share my logic.he's telling me he's seen balls go for over 15,000,which i consider ludicrous.is he possibly right?if so,what does such a snake look like?

Look up Coral Glow ball python, or the Banana ball.
A lot of people are more than willing to drop a lot of cash on new morphs, especially breeders who make a living off of them.

I'd say some of the rare double recessives like Dreamsicles or Lavender Snows are worth their weight in gold...

Isnt this kind of the wrong forum for you to insult ball pythons and have such a poor attitude about them? Buddy, there have been ball pythons that have sold for over a quarter of a million dollars! There have been quite a few that were $50,000-100,000 back when we had a strong economy. Stick that in your diamond python (that never produces and eats poorly) and smoke it!

i'm sorry if you don't understand the concept of sarcasm.if it makes you feel any better,i don't consider childrens, spotted,or anthill pythons as real pythons, either.only in name alone.if your short, dumpy blobs make you happy,so be it.my opinion is just that,my opinion.just remember this-that $20,000 ball will be $5,000 in just a couple years, and will eventually be under a grand.look at pieds, for example.anyone who pays a quarter mil for a snake is either flat out retarded,or wants to cash out for the first couple litters.better hope it's co-dom,if it's simple recessive you gotta deal with hets, and it could be 5-10 yrs before your investment really pays off,if ever.hell, look at jaguar carpets-10 yrs ago, untouchable for less then 10 grand, now an expensive one is $700 or so.the albino carpets will be the same way;i'll wait 6 or 7 yrs,and get one for 2 grand or so.honestly, the best you can really hope for anymore is that you make enough off of hatchlings to make your collection self-sustaining.remember,just my opinion.

Did you not understand that "put that in your diamond python and smoke it" was a joke?

What you do not grasp is that your opinion is not founded in facts. Thousands of people worldwide have made good money breeding ball pythons and still do. Your figures are meaningless. It costs the average person about $20 to produce a baby ball python (electricity, food, caging, cleaning, etc.). So why wouldn't it be great money all these years later to sell a pied for $1000. That is pretty good margins. Just look at the sponsors of this forum, and the users and the classified ads. It is basic economics that as there are more of something manufactured and it is easier to obtain they will sell for less and sell in more volume. That is how it works. That is why bentleys are hand made and only a couple hundred a year are produced and they are 1/2-2 million $$$ while kia sells their cars for $12,000! Coca Cola is pretty common. It is only $1-2. But I like it and still drink it and I think if you look at the companies income they have done pretty well with supply and demand turning a profit.

I was going to comment about coming into the ball python forum, bashing ball pythons, and then asking a question about their worth...but I didn't want to start a fight.

Yes, this individual is correct in saying that ball pythons sell for over $15,000. Most of these are very rare morphs, involving double recessive traits. Maybe these "short, dumpy blobs" have more potential than you think. By the way, this was a pretty abrasive post, and maybe a little more courtesy could be shown seeing that this forum is mainly viewed by ball python owners.

Thank you. And also a couple super pastel or "killer clowns" were just sold recently in the classifieds on this site for $25,000 each.

You can buy a diamond python for $1,000.00, that's great. They used to sell for $10,000.00 or better some years ago. That's what, 10% or less of theiroriginal market price. They probably would have come down in price a lot sooner it they were more desireable back then. The price has dropped on ball pythons. Why? Decause they are/were MORE desireable. IE: greater demand, more supply. You can like whatever want but don't slam other peoples choices. In my opinion diamond pythons were just overpriced "fancy" looking carpets.

I'm sorry guys,i was just yanking your chains.if you like balls, great, more power to you.i wasn't trying to really offend anyone,Relax. I'll even buy a ball one day, when some scientist gets bored and splices some jellyfish genes in,and makes a glowball.

A ball python is worth what the buyer will pay. Your friend thinks a pied is worth a grand, so he paid it. That's really all there is to it.

If I had the money, I'd straight up buy all the ball morphs I like.
