General Ques.'s - what does everyone do?

Johnenewt1 Apr 03, 2010 12:59 AM

- How often do you feed an adult dragon insects?
- If using tiles or shelf liner, what do you immediately spray/wipe it with to disinfect the germs after it's been pooped on?
- What temperature is it supposed to be inside an egg incubator?
- What humidity percentage is it supposed to be inside an egg incubator?

I know what I do - I'm just curious to see what everyone else does... Thank you for your help!

I typically feed a few superworms or other insects to my adult dragon daily.

I spot clean with antibiotic soap on a cloth or Habitat Cleaner.

Incubation temperature should be about 85F, but I have never incubated dragons eggs so I may be off on the temperature.

As for humidity, 100% is typically good for inside the egg deli dishes.

Silkworms are my primary food. But, I also always have crickets and superworms. I feed live food 3 days a week with salad on the off days, except for egg laying females, sub adult or juveniles, and sick or underweight animals that I feed both everyday. I weigh all my animals weekly and chart it to determine the amount of live food required to stay in their target weight range.

I use the Lysol wipes to disinfect.

I keep mine at 83-84. Above 85 is said to have a higher incidence of birth defects and I don't want to risk it. Longer incubation time is also said to produce stronger babies. I am not a breeder though and only hatch a few each year for my own experiments. This year I am working on an immaculate conception project.

I have Hovabator non-fan incubators and put my eggs in deli cups. I block some of the vent holes in the incubator and put in a bowl of water. This makes it about 60% in the incubator. I have one deli cup as a control, inside it stays at about 99%. I replace lost water in the bowl and deli cups every 2 weeks.

- My adults get insects every day but in small quantities and my primary feeder are Turkestan roaches

- I use lemon juice and water to quickly disinfect and wipe it up with a paper towel. Then once a week I steam clean my tiles.

- I kept my eggs around 82 to 84 degrees in the incubator.

- My humidity was roughly 70% in the incubator itself and around mid to high 90s in the containers.
