Have you ever seen a Cornuta x lewisi?

kwe Apr 05, 2010 12:05 AM

Some rhinos if kept under artificial lighting will get that light bluish mottling on them. My first rhino was kept inside for a couple years and he looked just like that, I thought it was a unique color but when I put him outside it changed. The multihorn male I post pictures of is him. I have seen more with the same mottling, and all inside kept. I would like to see some clearer pictures to be totally confident. A horned lewisi would be interesting though. I'm starting to think some of these cyclura won't hybridize on their own, nubila and cornuta have been around in the private sector for a while now. KB

I have a male in the same cage as her.. he is black/gray and a little bit of normal rhino blue on the feet and base of his tail.. he looks totally different from my blue female and the pink/blue baby trio... this has nothing to do with lights and diet... then they all should look the same right? they live with the same diet temp light..She was White as a baby with black stripes... very different...i think that your just got dirty when you put it outside.. as you se i use astroturf..

rhino2 Apr 05, 2010 07:08 AM

You need to get a real camera. The cell phone pictures make it hard to tell what you have. After viewing a few more fotos of your animals, they look pretty normal.

Gary93 Apr 05, 2010 07:12 AM

do you have any pics of the enclosure? im just curious to see what it looks like

Extreemosaurus Apr 05, 2010 09:01 AM

i think so.. trying to find one..

Extreemosaurus Apr 05, 2010 10:11 AM

Only 2/3 of the cage is visible in the pic.. ITS BIG.. two in one.. its about 2,6m tall 1,5m deep and 2,6m long..1 foot is about 30,25cm i think..so 1 meter is about 3 feet...and a little bit more.. and its soft plexiglas so they dont get noserubb... i have noticed that they calm down fast when the cage is placed higher up.. i have never handled my iguanas much but when they only can see you head and hands they calm down relly fast... they cant see how big you are..

Extreemosaurus Apr 05, 2010 09:06 AM

the baby rhino in Your pic look a bit like my trio.. but they are still more colorfull.. and if they get more color as they age like the blue female.. they will become real beauties!

Extreemosaurus Apr 05, 2010 05:03 AM

he looks different.. sorry for the bad pic..

rhino2 Apr 05, 2010 07:14 AM

KWE

I can see the wheels are turning for the new designer Cyclura. LOL

Extreemosaurus Apr 05, 2010 03:06 PM

C,Cornut x C,lewisi x C,cychlura figginsi x C,pinguis... would be nice OR NOT LOL.. why not put a sailfindragon in the mix too ..

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Apr 05, 2010 05:07 PM

Personally I don't think there can be any improvement over natural Cyclura. Each one of them is truly unique in it's own way [looks, personality, etc] and need no help from people at all except to help them survive...Other than the lewisi hybrids, which if I hadn't have loaned my real ones to Zoo's I'd still have, color means nothing to me at all. My one great fear is crossing cornuta with other species as the caymanensis and nubila have been in the past. I have one pair of what I think are pure Cuban Iguanas but have sold many that I couldn't tell for sure. I wish this had never happened....

So true!.. and most zoos think they know it all when they really dont!.. i hate that kind of BS... the best herp breeders are everyday people who just love the species they have at home and do everything for them to make them happy and learn more about them..

I have talked with Juergen schmidt about getting some of his PURE lewisi from Austria to me in sweden.. he had just one female left and the transport and stuff was just to expensive for just one animal..500€ its like 700$ just too much.. so i have to wait and hope he hatches some new babies soon..He sent me a pic.. not much blue on her but a very long head..i think it was a about a year old from the pic.. very beautifull lewisi.. Such a BUMMER with the transportation costs!!!
TOM..What do you think of his lewisi?

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Apr 05, 2010 06:23 PM

I've never seen them or a picture of them...

toffeeman Apr 06, 2010 03:53 AM

did you say juergan was selling a lewisi for 500e as i got in touch with him last year and they were 5000e a pair

Extreemosaurus Apr 06, 2010 04:31 AM

NO 500€ would cost only for the transport(shipping) and boarder permit to sweden(only sweden has this stupid permit law in all of EU).. 300€ for shipping only... the animals cost 2500 each.. he said he can bring it to hamn expo to bring down the cost.. so i have reserved te last one! PURE LEWISI ! WOOHOO!!! A CHILDHOOD DREAM IS COMING TRUE!!! JUERGEN IS A REALLY NICE GUY

toffeeman Apr 06, 2010 07:49 AM

when i asked he said hed ship to uk for 300e but i didnt have the 5000e so i got 6 cubans from a guy in the czech republic for 1400e its a pity we cant get lewisi from tom over here
