I posted a question about my MBK's breeding or lack of a week or so ago. She's probably going to shed tomorrow so I put her in his cage today. Both of them seemed like they were in a trance. After about an hour, I looked in the cage and he was climbing on her back,NOT biting her and trying to line his cloaca up with hers. I didn't think to much about it but about a half hour later I looked in and she had her tail raised and I can definately see his hemipenes inside her. There also seems to be sperm oozing out of her. they've been locked up for about an hour and a half. Crossing my fingers now. I really posted just to tell everyone THANK YOU AND HAPPY EASTER! Steve.

Well it's about time! congrats!

Now leave them to gether for a while and feed the heck outta that female so that you can get a double clutch from her. It is normal for her to go off food in the next couple weeks and will eat agin after she lays. usually a day or two after laying.

In about 2-3 weeks place the female in a suitable nesting container andnot just a small laybox inside the encloser.

Nesting is an important part of egglaying process so that the female does not become egg bound or retain the eggs to long.

Or you can just take a chance with a small laybox. When i used a laybox the female often layed underneath it and not in it. This made me rethink the nesting box and the importance of the female finding a suitable spot to ceate a nest.

Thanks Rainer. I separated them after they were done (3 hours later) so she could shed, which she did this morning. She ate 5 small mice. He won't eat ever since He got her scent. Actually he did eat 2 small mice last week but he has absolutely NO interest in food right now. He's constantly trying to get out of his cage like he's searching for her. I didn't want to keep them together because she always refused food after I introduced them. I know she needs the extra food right now so that's why I separated them. I'm going to reintroduce tomorrow. I think I'm going to try feeding her every other day and introductions on the other days until he shows no interest.

I second the use of a nice big nest box, as deep as you can fit in the cage. You will be surprised at how deep some females will lay the eggs, although some lay on the surface too. The female may make a mess of it, but it is all for good results.
