Interesting thing I learned this Saturday.....

Because of being fed good etc. my small Robert Faust cross became sexually mature very recently (being fed very little kept it small and physically young), now HE started everting and scent marking rocks, wood, etc., so much for Shadow being a female. I put my freinds large male whitethroat in the living room to explore and put his cape-banded WT in the other cage to perfom a test of sex identification, it worked HE is also a male that recently became sexually mature. I put Sobek in the same cage after removing the small WT and he everted about 6 times as well as scent marking etc. Oh well now we seach for females.

Please do not take offense, but albigs are one of the easist monitor species to sex. They are very easy, after a month or two of age. I would think with all the experience you have, you would have noticed by now. Really Check the tail bases, they are totally different. F

The 2 more recent albigs we got had small tail bases until the last few weeks, then they just grew. Amazing when I looked at pics I took before and after they became mature.
Sobek has a tail base that is like a female but he everts fully flowered hemipenes, so I dont believe that works all of the time. Ive had a female with a large tail base that everted only small hemiclitori. Ive had a few males that I couldnt tell until I saw a full eversion. Thats why I dont try to guess until I know for sure.

First, I have no idea about the flower thing. Males and females are totally different. Not just with their gentitals, but in build and additude. I can tell what sex they are from across the room.

If you have an albig over a foot or so, there should be no doubt. Also, how do you know for sure? In our case, males breed females and females lay eggs. So far, Albigs are by far the easist to sex of all monitor species.

I know, I may be totally wrong, but from your posts, you sound like you have never seen a sexually mature male. As there is absolutely no question. You do not need to check for flowers. There is no need for maybe or possibly. A male is simply not within a hundred miles of being female. F

When the tail grew very thick at the base. Hes gained a few inches from there and a few lbs. Hes about 34-36 inches and 3.5 lbs to 4 lbs now. This was a pic Rob Faust took when Shadow was over a year old.
