Boa experts: Leticia locale?

JamesWV Apr 04, 2010 09:03 PM

Hey everybody,
I'm new to boas and just got some on a trade. One female the guy gave me was bought originally as a Leticia locale. He threw it in as a bonus snake. I read that there aren't many true Leticia's, and there were a lot passed off as Leticia that weren't. I've been trying to read what I can about them to figure out if she actually is a Leticia or not. I've found varying responses. From what I've read they should be from Colombia, but BCC, as opposed to BCI. I haven't done a full body scale count and the subcaudal count fell in the overlap range between BCC and BCI. She looks pretty much like a normal BCI to me, but I'm not that experienced so I was hoping someone else would have some input. She does seem to have fewer saddles than most of the BCI pics I've looked at.
Thanks,
James

Hey James,
I must say I do not know anybody who would keep Boa constrictors on captivity that actually origin from Leticia. Sellers often label Colombian BCI as "Leticia line", since some of them had been shipped through Leticia. However, these animal come from North Colombia and not South Colombia. In truth, boas in Leticia are definitely BCC and in appearance they are almost identical with "Peruvian redtails"(see the pic that was taken in Leticia). Again, Leticia boas are true redtails, BCC and I have never seen any in captivity (if anybody has, let me know).
As regards your boa, to me it looks like a typical Colombian BCI. Nice classic Colombian!
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info guys. What you told me is kind of what I expected. That's ok though. She's a nice snake.

I got this guy on the trade too. He actually came from you Tom. He's due to shed any day and I'm excited to see what his colors look like post-shed.
