Cool or Warm mist Humidifiers. Which should i use?

thomas j Sep 21, 2003 05:35 PM

My snake building should be coming today. I am goig to insulate the floor, walls, and ceilings. As well as sheet rock walls. I will be running electricity to it. I will be using an oiled filled heater for heat,i have fans to circulate the air.
I need to get an humidifier to keep the humidity up. Should i use a warm or cool mist.

Thomas, I have a set up similar to yours with an oil filled radiator hooked up to a Helix controls thermstat. I started out with a cool mist humidifier and quickly exchanged it for the warm vapor type. The main reason was energy savings and an atmosphere closer to what my animals would normally be subjected to. With a cool air system you're defeating the purpose of having the room heated. I find the radiator works less due to the heat being contributed by the humidifier. Either way heat is generated it's being tacked on to your electric bill but by buying the cool air type you're paying twice. Once to cool the air and then to heat it. Make sense? The other major item is I don't have that white poder dust all over the place from minerals in the water. They tend to build up on the unit itself but I can clean it off every once in a while easily enough.

she said that your better off using a vaporizer than a humidifier. Because of cleanliness. The humidifiers are too prone to hidden bacteria and germs. No matter how tedious you are about cleaning it. Thats her take on it atleast.

Thomas,

I also use a warm mist humidifier. Works great, great sheds and humidity levels.
