Any monitor species that stay smallish?

Im not looking for a tropical species either.Desert or semiarid perhaps.Under or around the 3ft mark.Something I can handle alone that doesnt take up half the house.Meat eater only too.Thanks for any info and sites to look up..Just getting an idea of whats out there.

There are a number of Australian species that stay small- "dwarf monitors".

For a new keeper, I think the Ackies are far and away the best choice. Other species are much more fragile, hard to find, expensive, or all three.
