Yes! Finally... Sunglow Motleys!!

Shane Kinney Apr 05, 2010 06:02 PM

Yes, I finally produced some sunglow motleys! This litter was born Good Friday afternoon, 4/2/10 from a hypo motley het albino male that I produced from a original Jeremy Stone motley X a very orange pick of the litter outbred sunglow that I produced X a Tom Burke produced Lipstick line Sunglow female. This is the same sunglow female that produced some nice hypo motley het albinos for me a couple years ago. I missed her ovulation, but she went 100 days POS. This litter represents several firsts for myself- the first albino and sunglow motleys I've produced, the earliest litter produced in the year, born during the afternoon(it was stormy, windy, and rainy out) versus at night or early in the morning(still dark), and the largest litter I've had born.

Any guesses to how many live babies are in that pile of goo?

She's just daring me to come closer! She was an absolute beast to remove from the cage! lol.

getting cleaned up

some lipstick poss super sunglows and sunglow motleys

a hypo motley het albino, albino motley, and motley het albino

a motley het albino, sunglow, and albino motley

I'm looking forward to watching these guys color up! Thanks for looking and good luck on your upcoming litters and seasons.

By the way, the final count was 38 live babies, 2 still born, and 2 slugs. 2 years ago she had 29 with a couple slugs. Gotta love baby boas!

Thanks Chris. I know you must have been stoked when you produced your first albino and sunglow motleys way back when.

Shane Kinney Apr 05, 2010 11:22 PM

Thanks John. Yea, you just don't see litters like that with CA's. I've actually had bigger boas have smaller litters. These 2 lines are really hardy and solid lines and grow quickly with little food and breed well.

Treeserpent Apr 05, 2010 06:37 PM

Great news ! So how did you go about coaxing her out?!?

Shane Kinney Apr 05, 2010 11:27 PM

Thanks. This girl is the absolute toughest I've had when removing after giving birth. I actually did the same thing I did with her a couple years ago and that is getting a big rat half way down her throat and then grabbing her quickly and carefully and moving her to another cage. She wasn't very happy about it to say the least!

tibor Apr 05, 2010 06:40 PM

Congrats..worth the wait.
thanks for sharing.

Shane Kinney Apr 05, 2010 11:28 PM

Thanks. Yes, worth the wait, but I hate waiting that long! lol.

Pithons Apr 05, 2010 07:43 PM

Congrats Shane... I cant wait to see them after there first shed.. The hypo Mot I picked up from you in 2008 had the most color Iv seen on a mot. Cant Wait to see what they look like in the Albino form. Sunglow Mots, Very very nice shane..

Shane Kinney Apr 05, 2010 11:30 PM

Thanks Dave- appreciate it. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them after a couple sheds. As you know, they just keep developing more color. Did that hypo motley breed for you this year?

Pithons Apr 06, 2010 12:05 AM

Shane,
Unfortunately I resold that male hypo mot, I just didnt have any female for him and went a different direction with my projects. I wish I kept him tho. He was very colorful. And Yes I do know first hand how much those hypo mots color up with age. And being from the lipstick line, I can only imagine what those Sunglow Mots will look like. Now did you say you used a brother to the hypo mot I had? I gotta say that the best part of that litter is that you get such a diverse amount of babies. 8 different snakes. That sounds like a good idea what you did getting the mother out. By giving her a big rat and let her get half done to remove her. I have a female about to give a litter in about 3 more weeks, and she large so I will try giving her a good meal when I remove. Did you female tag you? Did it spit out the rat? Good luck shane and please post more pics of them after they shed.

Shane Kinney Apr 06, 2010 10:20 AM

She did not tag me, but she really wanted to and put in a good effort! lol. I timed it just right and she did not spit the rat out. After she got the rat down she had a little hissing fit! lol. She'll chill out with a couple more big rats.

LarM Apr 05, 2010 08:17 PM

Wow congrats Shane, My guess was 32 babies ,

what a smokin hot litter

Looks like fun to me !

I know you've been waiting for this litter a couple of years now ......but better late than never. I hope you have more motleys because that would mean I'll get some too. I'll come by when my shoulder get better.

Shane, Big congratulations on a job well done. A beautiful pile of gorgeous boas, for me life don't get much better than that. Looks like some serious smoking boas especially the Motley's. Take care and hope your season only gets better. Andrew

Shane Kinney Apr 06, 2010 10:16 AM

Thanks Andrew. I agree, a pile of beautiful baby boas can make you easily forget other current stresses.

cbmorphs Apr 06, 2010 07:00 AM

Now that's a nice litter, looks like you got yourself some really nice Sunglow Motleys! Judging from they're background, those Sunglow Motleys will probably just get better and better with age!

Congrats,

Chaz Neely

Shane Kinney Apr 06, 2010 10:17 AM

Thanks Chaz. Yea, I'm hoping these guys only get better with age like the others have.
