Argus Monitor Gender?

wRobio Apr 05, 2010 07:25 PM

I want to get a mate for my argus monitor, but I am not 100% sure of its gender, and I don't want to end up with 2 males. It is about 2 feet and 1.5 years old. I thought it was a male, but I think it should have bigger hemipenal bulges by now if it is. It is petite like a female, but it is still small, so I am not sure. Can anyone post comparison pictures of hemipenal bulges or similar sized/aged monitors with known genders?

The monitor is hissing and trying to poop in these pictures, so they may be skewed images of what it actually looks like.

That is a pristine animal. Very Very nice! I don't have much experience with argus but it looks sexually mature and it's lacking some bulges. I'd vote female if anythng but my vote doesn't count. :P

My guess is female, but a whole body shot would help.

Cheers,

Luke

That's a female. I have a male about half the size of that one and his bulges are really pronounced even at his size.
