Effing A! My Salmon ate my Albino...

herphobbiest Apr 06, 2010 11:29 AM

In all my years of keeping and breeding Boas I never had this before...

I have a 2002 Salmon Hypo female from Brian Leubking. She has bred for me many times... She is 8-1/2' to 9' ft long...

This year I pair her up with a 2007 Sharp Albino male 1/8 Guyana, from Mike Weitzman... He was 6' ft long...

I saw them on Sunday and figure it was time to separate them...

I was working on my motorcycle, so I figure I would separate them when I was done... Well I finsh my bike project, Monday afternoon...

I went get him, I was going to soak him in water before the move... I had clean his cage already...

But wait, he is not in the cage... I look in the cage... OK where is he? I look in the snake room... WTF!!! He can not get out... Where is he? I went to look back in the cage... Then I see my female, she looks like she ate 2 really big Guinea Pigs...

Effing A!!! She ate him!!!

I am kind of pissed off a little... It was a nice looking Sharp Albino... And I paid $2 grand for him... But, I am really amazed... It was a 6 ft male!!!

Wow, that really sucks. I have heard of that happening, although very rare, boas are not usually canabalistic. Now you have to wonder if she will do it again. Best of luck.

Wow, that really does suck considering it's such a beautiful boa. Let's hope he inpregnated her before he bit the dust.

herphobbiest Apr 06, 2010 04:23 PM

I sure hope so...

This Salmon Hypo female has produced some really nice babies... When she bred to a Rich Ihle Coral Albino She gave me some awsome babies... Then:

Now:

Not bad for F1 offspring!!!

I sure hope she is gravid... She had last year off... Luis

All I have to say is I would have to see it to believe it

Boas,Central and South American variety never purposely eat
other live adult Boas that I have ever heard about

There have been feeding accidents/incidents where one Boa starts to eat a
rat and is attached to the Rat and another Boa within the same
enclosure smells the rat and starts to eat that rat also

In the process of swallowing the rat one Boa will and has
inadvertently swallowed another Boa.

That's absolutely the only way I've ever heard of this occurring

Doesn't mean it didn't happen,

I suppose there is always a first time

You sure you didn't throw a couple rats in there for them to eat ?

I could believe this happened if that's the case

One year I bumped into my plastic cages trying to arrange cables I had running in the back and it rattled the cages and formed quite the commotion. When I finished and looked at the cages one of my females was trying to constrict a male with what seemed like the intent of feeding but it was brought on by me spooking them. I think its possible what you think happened but I have to lean toward she is ovulating and he got out or someone took him out. Keep looking.

Cage was closed and locked... And, the female looks like is going to pop...

This female has always feed during courting and gestation... But I feed her light... I feed her two day prior, she ate one large Guinea Pig...

What kind of cage is she in?

I ask because I had an adult boa escape from a closed and locked cage, I'm wondering if you are using the same one I was?

I don't mean to question you, it's just something I haven't heard of before in regards to BCi and I'm really really hoping your male just got out and you'll find him... because that is really a tragedy!

I agree April I think he got out and Luis will find him curled up somewhere

I certainly hope he got out because he was gorgeous and
that would be completely tragic

My guess is the Fem ate a Guinea Pig then went into ovulation and
he fled the seen squeezing out of the plastic door

I certainly hope April and I are right !

They were both in a 4'ft Vision Cage...

I never had any snake get out, unless I leave the cage open...

If she did in fact eat your male then there's a really chance she will regurgitate soon. Andrew

If maybe you still owed on the animal??

I mean, you've been known to hold animals hostage, or to pull the old "it died, I owe you nothing" trick.

You've even tried the old "sue me to get your own animal back" trick. Heck, I'll go one better and say that you tried it on me.

Like I said, can't help but wonder.
Maybe Karma's kicking in a bit?

HUH!!

Ophidia_Junkie Apr 08, 2010 05:50 AM

>>HUH!!

Yep. True as it gets. Forced me to go to AZ and repossess my big gravid Kahl girl from him 101 days after her POS in '06. Even collected the two BP's he was holding as hostage, and returned them to their rightful owner as well.

He tried to tell me to "sue him" to get her back, to "prove she's mine" after already admitting she was mine to Pinal County Sheriff's. It's all documented, and burned forever into my memory.

Yep, I gotta wonder if there ain't something being left out of the story.
