Dracaena: "lucky bamboo"

I was wondering if these would make okay additions for a small/medium monitor enclosure. I can't find any info on whether or not they're toxic. My girlfriend got one of these things about 8 months ago and it's thriving in nothing but water. It's not growing but its still very green and just fine. Also they're really really cheap so if my monitor tramples it i can always get more. They sell them at wal mart frequently in weird designs. Anyhow, has anyone tried using these things with their monitors?
