I just put a little 99 cent thermometer I bought from wallmart directly on the basking spot and its reading 110 degrees. I just got a thermostat today and its hooked up to that?!?!?! WTF? what am I doing wrong here? should I just trust the thermostat? no right? its set at 92 degrees only. Come to think about it the box said it would shut off at 100. Im so freekin confused!

Is the thermostat probe right under the basking spot where u put the little thermometer? That's where it has to be.

Im using a heat pad, wasnt sure if i put the probe directly on the heat pad if I need the tip to touch the pad. Or just suction cup it to the pad and let the probe sorta sit a quarter inch above? probably doesnt matter right? just trying to be accurate.

well two things come to mind her one it being placed in the wrong area and not directly in the basking area or there is a faulty probe which ive ran into numerous times buying the cheap herpistats if you can swing it most people who have multi caging or racks use herpistat pro model heat controllers me personally i like the helix but both are equally good just a suggestion its up to you also some of the zoomed models work well but give out after extended use (couple of years lol)

hope this helps i dont know what kind of caging you have etc probably check the probe simple test wrap probe in plastic and dip it in water that your thermometer deemed 100 degrees and see if it turns on or cuts out at temp setting
