Drylok Waterproofer vs. Pond Paint

OliveJewel Apr 09, 2010 01:01 PM

Sorry to bump this back up to the top. I was all set to buy the Drylok Latex Masonry Waterproofer to seal my new wood and plexi cage for the Corucia who prefer 80% humidity. Then someone gave me a tip that Blagdon Pond Paint was water-based and therefore less toxic.

Can anyone comment on their experiences or preferences with either? Thank you so much!!

I have not heard of Blagdon Pond Paint so I did a quick search and see that it's a UK product. If you're in the UK is Drylok even available?

I looked for a data sheet on it and found little. My only concern with it is that it won't be as flexible as Drylok and therefore a bad choice for the wood you're sealing.

Otherwise, Drylok has been used in ponds and tanks for years and is about as non-toxic of a product you could reasonably expect to find. And for sure it's flexible enough to be used on wood.

Also, in paint terms, latex-based and water-based mean the same thing more or less. The Drylok I recommended is considered a water based product as well.

If you can find a data sheet for me on the pond paint you're looking at I'd be glad to take a closer look.

The friend who told me about it lives in UK! I am in AZ!

That pretty much settles my mind; I certainly will not be internationally ordering pond paint! It sounds like the two products are relatively similar. One thing my friend said was that the Blagdon Pond Paint dries to a rough finish, which is what you told me about the Drylok.

Thank you so much for your input! I plan to go buy it tomorrow!
