This is exactly why people LOVE the really light yellow Jungles that you see once in a while. Because they are pretty much the only Colombians that have this brilliant perfect Peruvian yellow that this creature has. Lovely Boa Gus!

Gus, great looking Boa as usual. I really like the fact that you have fastidiously kept your Boa's pure without the mongrel mix of locales, species, and subspecies. I'm a purist at heart and the private sector has all but lost the wonderful diversification of normal occurring Boas in the quest for morphs. I'd much rather have than one Peruvian than 25 Lipstick Sunglow's, etc. This is the first boid species I ever bred many long years ago and was lucky enough to pick up a reverse trio....

These will never be mixed with anything except for other P. molurus molurus!!!

I've read my post this morning and it didn't come out exactly like a I meant it to and don't want it to be insulting which was NOT my intent. First Lipstick Sunglows were just used as an analogy but they are pure Colombian Boas as best I can tell [at least Tom's originals were] and I think they are one of the PRETTIEST morphs alive. Secondly I know we're just creating prettier snakes by mixing them and have done it myself. The albino Iguana's are a good example where I'm going to mix Central American with S. American Iguanas to improve color[did this year in fact]. These are all designer morphs that have nothing to do with wild populations and I see NOTHING wrong with it. What I'm really trying to convey is that IF this Boa Ban goes thru [I'm feeling positive it's not but who knows?] we will have a very small gene pool of genetically pure Boas to work with over time. Even producing desgner morphs on certain types we might need a PURE Nic. or PURE Peruvian etc. and they just won't be there to get anymore. I think it would be nice and even EXTREMELY important if at least every Boa breeder would breed hishers favorite PURE locale specific for the future. If we, the private sector, lose any type of locale Boa we can't expect any help from the AZA. Gus has always [that I'm aware of] only produced very high quality locale specific Boas and I respect him for that plus his Boas are about as nice as they get. My post sounds hypocrytical to me and it wasn't intended that way. Those of you that have worked YEARS to produce the AMAZING array of morph Boas out there I have just as much respect for as Gus. I am worried however that a ban on any Boa imports is possible and if all the GREAT Boa Breeders out there don't do somthing in terms of PURE locale Boas we might be in trouble rather quickly to get what we need to breed morphs or even locale specifics for that matter. The wording on my post sounds like I think it's foolish and wrong to breed morphs which doesn't reflect my true intention. The sentence about preffering the Peruvian over morphs is how I feel however just as I prefer a GORGEOUS Corn Snake over any Corn Snake morph. If I offended anyone I'm sorry but it was NOT my intention to do so. Please do consider what I'm saying about perhaps just breeding one type of PURE locale specific Boa just to hedge against the threat of an import ban that is still looming out there over our heads. THANKS for reading....P.S..... The first boid I ever bred were true Indian Pythons which at one time were extremely common in early Herpetoculture and Python m. molurus is a GREAT example of what can happen when a ban [in this case declared endangered] happens. Now PURE Indians are about as rare as hen's teeth. An albino Idian Python bred back so as to reflect more Indian characteristics than Burmese are INCREDIBLE looking albinos. Just check the Burmese forum as someone has posted a pic of one. I did that also back n the day but I have deep regrets for not continuing to breed PURE Indian Pythons...thanks

That's a great looking snake!
I've always loved those!
How are their temperaments in general as well as compared to boas?
Is that a current project or an old pic?
Will you be producing pure Python molurus molurus in the near future?
Thanks in advance.

that photo of one of the males he posted above is probably the nicest example of a southern India molurus that I have ever seen. I absolutely agree that due to the extreme rarity in captivity of genetically pure P. molurus molurus (mainland or Sri Lanka), these animals should most definitely be maintained in pure form with any breeding project. Absolutely nothing is gained by hybridization between the subspecies within the molurus group. Thanks Tom for posting photos of those outstanding pythons and for your comments.
