Female trying to mate with male.

baileymayflower Apr 09, 2010 07:44 PM

At the beginning of season our male started makin moves and trying to mate for the first tie with our female. Now she is trying to matewith him. She doesnt bob her head just a small bow. Her beard goes black ad then she mounts him and tries. Is this normal? Are her hormones just going crazy or should I be concerned?

Either you have the sexes mixed up or the female is being dominate towards the male. If the latter then she's definitely not ready to mate and it would be a good idea to separate them and introduce them together a few days later.

Actually the female is ready to mate and is trying to motivate the male to mate. Sometimes when you have m/f living together they feel more like brother/sister towards each other and the male doesn't mate as you suggested. Separation is your best bet if you are trying to get them to mate. Unfortunately, she is likely ready now and the separation may have to be took long to give her fertilized eggs in the near term.

Separate them and occasionally show him to her or vice versa and see how he acts. If his beard turns black and he tries to get to her he could be ready.
