I'm currently on my first vacation of the year, in Northern California. There were a few days of cool weather and rain, but eventually things cleared up.
This little one was found in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Monday. The temperature was in the upper 40s. The snake was under a piece of artificial cover. It looks like one of last year's babies.

On Tuesday I found this one at Stevens Creek Reservoir:

Yesterday I was up on Mount Hamilton and I found this Gopher. It looks like it has virtually no black.

The final Gopher of the week was also found on Mount Hamilton as well. This one was about four feet long and longest snake found on my trip (a total of 23 snakes were caught, consisting of Gopher Snakes, Garter Snakes, Rattlesnakes, a Whipsnake and a Night Snake - all snakes were photographed and released at their point of capture).

How about one more photo of that last Gopher Snake?
