feeding a starved ball

Shadow4108 Apr 11, 2010 09:25 AM

i just picked up a rescue the other day. He is about almost 2 feet long. He is severly malnourished. he was only getting a small mouse or two every other month. his spine shows all the way down his body. other than time and prayers and proper feeding, any suggestions. His temps are about 90-92 on hot side and 75 on cool side. and he is in a 40 gallon breeder

If you have the temperature and humidity correct, and he's healthy in every other way from being underfed just start him off with smaller meals, maybe the same small moose, and feed each week, then get bigger once his system has has time to adjust.

Good job saving him, hope it works out for you!

Even if the moose is small.

Hahaha, didn't see that error sorry, can't figure out how to edit it. "Mouse" is what I meant.

Feed until the snake's metabolism seems to be back up to speed, then get it on a schedule. Offer plenty of water and good luck!

LMAO...moose..

I checked in on my rescue this morning to find he had passed some time earlier in the night. I hope that i did nothing wrong, but my temps were all correct and I did very little with him other than just peeking my head in the room to check on him, trying to avoid stress. I think that it was just too late to turn him around.

Sad to hear it, but that happens sometimes. I had a snake in similar shape that I got from a friend of my brother. I fed it a mouse, and it died. Apparently eating was too much for it.
