Just curious to hear some accounts on the captive husbandry on these odd little snakes. Anyone working with them?

Thanks,
Jay

Wow!! I vaguely remember reading about this snake a long time ago and had to recheck my library. Sure enough, the care is provided in a 1978 book entitled "Boas and Other Non-Venomous Snakes" by Dr. Werner Frank. Its an old TFH Publications book I probably bought in 1978-79 LOL!! Dr. Frank recommended keeping them on a loose soil/humus substrate about four inches thick with a water bowl large enough for them to soak in. He also recommended feeding small live fish, lizards/geckos, and other small snakes. He stated this species is recommended for experienced hobbyists due to its secretive nature and fact it stays burrowed and hidden unless to feed. Man, your post brought back memories for sure LOL!!

Good luck and please post pics of you have any. Dr. Frank describes them as having a beautiful irridescence and a tail tip that is orange in coloration that is whipped up when the snake is frightened!!

Hey thanks for the reply Kevin. I hope to locate some of these weird little snakes so fingers crossed. I ahve a few older publications that mirror the same captive requirements as you've quoted. Pretty basic considering the nature of the species. Getting snakes in decent shape seems to be the most challenging aspect of working w/ Pipe snakes. Rick in the Small Terrestrial Snakes forum replied to my inquiry as well. Thanks guys.
