Speaking of lizards...

rpelaez Apr 11, 2010 07:26 PM

I offered my last 2009 holdout a live uta that was left in the cage overnight and the offspring hit it this afternoon. Yesterday, I went out to the Plomosa Mts. to noose utas and to visit my old boa haunts. Saw many utas, five desert iguanas, an adult desert horned lizard, four large zebra-tailed lizards (three were noosed) and three speckled rattlesnakes. The first mitchelli was on the paved road at about 9:30am, and the other two were mating half in, half out of a fissure in a road cut at about 5:30pm. I know someone that would have been very interested in a pair of locality speckled's, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I must be getting soft in my old age...

I'm 800 miles away! So, I'm going to walk it off looking for boas this Saturday. Here's a 2008 F1 from five miles east of town. She has a little more color...if you're into that kind of thing. LOL.

Dude! I told you using large rubber bands works much better than noosing. You could be much more successful doing it that way!

Dude, if I were MORE successful than I am with my noose, I'd begin extirpating populations. Twenty-five to thirty-five an outing, with a few getting away helps achieve a more natural balance...lol.

I just can't believe you! I will put the rubber band up against the noose any day!

rpelaez Apr 13, 2010 10:29 PM

What don't you believe? That I can noose between 25-35 lizards when I go out? They don't call me THE MASTER for nothing, baby...LOL! Besides, you gotta dance with who brought you, and I've been dancing with my noose for 20 years. Ain't no switching now to one of those elastic noodles.

I cant get close enough to most utas to use a noose. Ive been using an airsoft gun. Usually can get 12-15/hr.

rpelaez Apr 15, 2010 08:48 PM

Well, that beats my average. I'm usually around 6-8 per hr, but like I said I don't like the feeling of catching every lizard I see. I like some to get away. My capture ratio is at about 60-70%. I use a two part fishing pole with the rings removed. The first part is 40", and the entire pole is about 80" long. The noose hangs about 3" and is made out of upholstery thread. The whole pole has been painted sky blue pole for clear, sunny days which we have a lot of in AZ...lol.
