What kind of red tail boa do I have?

samanthalyn850 Apr 12, 2010 10:24 PM

She's almost 2 years old, around 3.5 feet (maybe a little bigger), het for albino. Saddle count of 21. Was just wondering what color type and maybe where she's from. Thanks!

Looks like a normal color type to me. As far as locality, I would only guess Suriname.
If you have not done so already, I would post your question in the Boa forum. You will get more replies there.

I made a guess as I stated in the post. Just shows how common it is to misname. Next time I'll make sure to keep my mouth shut and wait for the experts.
Thanks for the clarification Lord Suriname LOL

Well I can tell you for certain that it isnt a redtail... it's b c imperator and not b c constrictor.... aside from that... no telling... could be central american..... but it's not really something that you can guess just by appearance...

Looks like a columbian boa to me. Back in the day before columbian boas were being farm produced, the common name "redtail" boa was specific to certain boas of certain locale like the Suriname pictured earlier. The Columbian farmers started calling their snakes "redtailed" boas to sell more of them and the distributers played along for the same reason, after all it wasn't a scientific designation and who could argue otherwise? Well I do, and still do, and always will when I see one being past off as a redtail.
