What were the parents? What is it a snow, moonglow or something very special?

boaphile Apr 13, 2010 11:32 AM

I love that you didn't say what the breeding was. Keeping us guessing is a thing of beauty.

The mom is probably an Albino Motley correct? The Dad is probably a Sunglow. The Albino Super Motley is a parthenogenic product from the Mom.

Those are my predictions. Is there a prize for guessing correctly or just the personal satisfaction of getting it right?

Great litter!~

Wasn't there just a forum topic about this a few months ago where several different people said they produced supers from a motley male to some kind of other female???? If I remember correctly there was, i don't remember who started the thread though.

I would be curious to know the parents of this litter though, to either support or argue the theory.

Any insight Tibor?

Congrats! Awesome litter as usual!

boaphile Apr 13, 2010 01:07 PM

I don't see how that is possible. How can the male produce an egg that begins to split and reproduce itself making a "super" version of itself. I haven't heard anyone speculate that a sperm can replicate itself and become a zygote and ultimately anything other than just a sperm. Only the female can do this.

Quite a few people now have produced "Super Motleys" when only the mother was a Motley. What I think is particularly interesting about this is that I have never heard of a female that was het for a simple recessive trait that produced a visual homozygous offspring without ever having been exposed to a male carrying the same recessive trait.

So what on Earth makes Motleys in particular to this fluke of nature?

Jeff,

I did produce one Albino Super Jungle from a Jungle X Jungle het Albino. The male Jungle was bred to an Albino the previous year, and produced no Albinos. The second year, he, and he alone, was bred to a virgin Jungle het Albino and the normal split of Jungles, Supers and normals was produced, except for this one lone Albino Super Jungle. Only the mom was carrying the gene for albinism...

My female het sharp may be the 1st. She was bred by a het bw caramel and had 4 albinos. I will be sending the shed skind to Dr Booth. I am waiting for 2 more to shed.

Jeremy Stone Apr 13, 2010 06:29 PM

Jeff, it really doesn't make any sense I agree. It is STRANGE.. I don't know why or what makes it happen, but interesting thing about the females that you mentioned. I don't know if that is Species specific, but all mine have seemed to have happen where the Male was the one that passed it on... I could give quite a few examples of this happening, but i'm stumped.... Sometimes good ole mother nature stumps us, and I wish we could figure it out...

I had an odd litter last year with a motley breeding. She is progo with the same father, so Im gonna wait to see what I get in this 2nd litter until I come up with my theory from last years litter.. Thats what makes breeding boas so darn interesting and awesome. Tib cant wait to see more pics. I can only guess that one will be your holdback..

SoMo_Boas Apr 13, 2010 11:52 AM

Amazing!! I think i agree with Jeff. Very exciting stuff!

Congrats Tibor!!

tcdrover Apr 13, 2010 12:39 PM

I'm very curious what it's eyes look like.

That's a sweet looking litter, you could drop a speck of pepper
in there and they'd probably disperse.

Congratulations Tibor, Sunglow Motley's with a Super Surprise !

What an AMAZING litter.. CONGRATS...

To shed some light on this subject, i have had this SAME occurance randomly happen 14 documented times... Not all with the same morph, but 14 times...

Last year, I bred a Motley het Sharp Albino to a Het Sharp Albino, and Popped the EXACT same thing Tibor did.. It was an albino Super motley Sharp, and it was white, but it didn't make it longer than a day... The one you looks like seems to be a lot healthier than the few that have popped out.

Another breeding last year by a different breeder also popped out an albino Super Motley from just a motley het too, so it has also happened to a few others...

Occasionally a SUPER Motley will come out of Motley to Normal breedings.... I have never been able to breed a Super Motley yet, as it appears the genes need a lot more outcrossing....

They are SOO cool to produce... CONGRATS again...

LOL...we dont even know what the parents were and everyone is acting like bio majors or scientist. What if the parents were both motleys?

boaphile Apr 15, 2010 02:31 PM

If the parents were both Motleys, the resulting white snake would not be a surprise.
