Reduced pattern Florida kings?

markg Apr 15, 2010 12:15 PM

Hey Florida king people,

Are there any Florida king hypos in the works where pattern (speckling) is greatly reduced to result in a more solid color animal?

A lot of the older males I've seen from Krysko line hypos have been almost solid yellow. There are faint traces of pattern, but its mostly a unicolor snake. Personally I really dislike that look, but to each his own.

Mark,
I had a huge (69 inch) male I got back in 2004 from John Rhoads in Texas.....I believe it was from Tim Ricks originally.....He had very little pattern......

I used to live a few miles from Len Krysko and got this one from him. He fathered the real clean hypos I called "baldys".

Some old photos of various tones that all descended from his orginal "banana brooksi", a real nice male he had in the early 90's that turned out to be het for hypo.

in hatchlings they have a lack of belly pigment, little lateral patterning, unmarked heads

Cool pictures and info Lindsay....

I always thought the term Hypomelanism was incorrect when describing these Floridana....
The black they do have IS black....The pattern is just reduced not the pigment....Much like an Applegate Special Pyro or those Corns with no black pattern that are also wrongly called hypo...

This one isnt a "pure" florida king but a goini x hypo brooksi intergrade. Some of these are patternless at hatch and remain like that, this one has 1-2 small patches of off-color scales but is a banana yellow unlike any hypo brooksi....and getting better as he gets older. Like most goini, the males tend to be the more patternless.
