7 years plus lots of money equals.....

gray Apr 15, 2010 01:19 PM

.....some cool critters. After a long day of school (and having set my alarm for a 4 am baby check for the previous four mornings), I got home to discover that my beloved Liena had finally decided to release her special brood. I was staring at a sizable pile of healthy baby boas and clearly the genetic expectations had been met....and then some. 21 babies on day 107 POS with 13 having received the Aztec mutation from Dad. As usual, I took way too many photos and I will take the liberty to share a few.

The mom has been with me for almost 7 years and this was her 4th breeding season but only the first successful result. Has anyone seen a lighter adult that is not of the albinism phenotype? I really wanted to pass her special genes into my Jungle line but this year decided to try the Aztec for a change of luck. I do feel lucky.

Congrats Gray! That dam female looks awesome as an adult and is definitely one of the lightest I've seen. Where did she come from?

jsschrei Apr 15, 2010 03:58 PM

Congrats on your accomplishment! That is a very special pile of babies! It must be very gratifying. They are gorgeous.

Great odds! I am really happy to see that the pattern held when crossed with a boa with "floating saddles". Make the Aztecs even more exciting!

Looks like 13 is your lucky number. Congrats buddy! I'm happy to see that you produced such an exciting litter. Keep us posted on their progress.

.....I appreciate the kind words. Of course I didn't make a post last month when my other Aztec litter came 3 weeks early and gave me 5 premies with 4 being Aztecs. We have to take the good with the bad.

Warren_Booth Apr 15, 2010 08:59 PM

Congrats Gray. Maybe next time Trey is about we can meet up for a beer again.

Awesome litter of Aztecs, Gray! Looks like your choice to switch males has paid off!

The dame to that litter is really nice, can't wait to see if her light colors has any affect on the Aztecs. Guess you'll know soon enough or in a couple sheds or so...

Congrats,
