An odd find from last year....

CMSMITH Apr 15, 2010 08:02 PM

I was pulling up to the Border Patrol checkpoint south of Alpine, I noticed something laying in the road right right at the line where youre supposed to stop your car. IT took me a second to realize what I was looking at. The agents told me that it fell from the rafters above just before they saw my lights coming. They also said that this has happened many times before, but the snakes usually werent as big. They thought that the previous culprits were gopher snakes as well. The rafters are at least 20 feet off the ground, its tough to figure how the snakes know to climb.

Hopefully, the gopher got one down before the fall. Any subocs out that way? I would think those might be candidates as well. My mind still reels from the pic Eby put up a year or two back of a suboc taking a bat from a fissure on the road. That too was being at the right place at the right time.

Not only that, Robert, but it was a BLONDE suboc! i guess that's the kind of luck you can expect if you live down there
