Your picture taking abilities have came a long way haha.. VERY NICE ANIMALS!!!

anthony james mc Apr 18, 2010 04:04 PM

Thanks, my old camera doesn't even work half the time anymore and this camera I've been using recently is a better one anyway , just can't figure out why it takes pics out of focus sometimes when it's set on 'auto focus' ? The snakes move around alot and that messes me up alot too, also the more snakes I put in the pic the harder it is to keep them together long enough for a decent shot. It's cool when things work out but when they don't I get pretty frustrated and just have to stop and put them away and just try again another day.

3 rd is the Potion, him and his brother were the first Blue Eyed Supers to hatch out here at my place. I have other BEL's but didn't make them, bought them.. The Potions were a nice way to bring the Mystics aboard the BEL complex for sure!

Thanks for your compliment!

Yes growing up the females seems to take forever here so I know what you mean about "the wait".

I won't have as many clutches this year as I would have liked but I should still have some stuff that's pretty cool just the same. Seems tough for me to get caught back up when I have a good previous season , doing this mainly alone without much help is a bit frustrating when you know what needs to be done all the time but you only can get so much done before the day is shot again and your tired once again, then tomorrow comes and it's the same deal all over again , some of you know exactly what I mean, never seem to be fully caught up . Really it's still to early to tell with some of my females what's going on so I really wouldn't want to say what I may have before I see what's really going to go for me first.

Hopefully I'll make a few things to post later this summer that people have been waiting to see!

Take care

Congrats on the amazing snakes.
I have a question maybe asked by some1 else before.
Looking at the M.Potion pattern it looks like a super stripe a little. What would happen by breeding a Mystic x Spcter ?
Did anybody try before? and a Mystic x Yellow belly?
Any records of these 2 breedings?
Thanks a lot...and again...great snakes.
Ciao

I made just a few Mystic Yb's last fall and they are starting to color up a bit now. The Yb and Mystic genes aren't alleles so it is more of a combo effect really. They are more bold colored and have a bit more highlighting on the dorsal stripes and have stronger side blushing and you can tell there is Yb in the belly a little as well.

As for mixing the Whirlwind/Specter gene in with the Mystic gene I haven't done that yet. Again it should be more of a combo as I don't think the 2 genes are alleles , so it would be nice to have but it requires giving up either a female mystic that can make Super Mystics or a female Whirlwind/Specter than can make Super Stripes (and who knows what else) to make such an animal. In time I'll probably do the cross and just hope it's at least a pretty obvious cross because if it ended up hard to tell if you hit the double codom that really wouldn't gain alot. Hope that makes some sense!

Here's a YB Mystic hatchling.

Thanks Anthony,

it does makes sense to me.
As you said "giving up" a female to breed Mystic x Specter will be a sort of "sacrifice" to the potionsuper stripe project indeed. I didn't think of the fact that babies will be challenging to differ...if not almost impossible.
Good luck this season, can't wait to see what's new.
Take care
Luca

I'm not sure how hard it will be to tell. I've made a couple Baker- Special Yb's from an Ivory x my Baker Super and they were different enough that you should be able to pick those out (obviously not alleles either) . The Mystic Yb's are different enough to me to tell as well so the Mystic Whirlwind should not be that hard I wouldn't think but until the cross is done it's hard to say what they would look like really. To me the best way will be to take my Super Mystic x a female Whirlwind that way all will be Mystics and I should be able to pick out the ones with the WW gene in them. My Super Mystic is only a little over 6 months old however so that's why I haven't done a cross like this yet..

Thanks for your comments!

Anthony congrats on that yb mystic but didn't we already know what they would look like? Since like you, I was just about 99.9999% sure the mystic and phantom were the same from the get-go. I can only begin to think of the future combos you can make with that beauty.

On another note, how did the special yb come out? I actually had a thought at one time that the crystal special and the specter/ww were the same morph. But then logic hit me. we have seen a yb mojave and it is a combo that bred out reproducing itself and if the ww and special were the same than the yb would have to be on the same allele with the mojave just like the special and mojave are. wow this makes my brain hurt, lol. with that said, is there any way that we can get some insight or pics on that pairing?

The Special Yb is just a high orange looking Yb , has nice flames , fairly average pattern and looks most like a YB in the belly. I used an Ivory and my Super from Baker so there was no missing on what I made.. It is a combo that will do some stuff if paired up the right way.. I'm breeding that same pair again as I'd like to make a male , just made a couple females so far.

As for the Mystic YB , yes I expected them to look that way as we already know what a Phantom Goblin looks like. I wanted it just to add to the lineup of things I plan to do with the Supers down the road. Yb is a nice gene to spice things up a bit and that's all I really was after anyway. I'm not going to get into what I plan on doing with the Mystic project for now, I'll wait and just show you later as some wouldn't believe my ideas/logic anyway! Let's just say the party is just getting started!

Take care man,
Anthony McCain

keep up the good work bro. I look forward to seeing what you have planned in the future. I do know that the mystic/phantom, baker special and the ww/specter projects have a long way to go. just imagine a special x ww x yb x mystic x mojave breeding, WOW!!!!!

Very nice, Anthony! They are all nice, but the potion is my favorite. Hopefully, I'll finally have supers and potions out this year, too! Now we just have to figure out what other colors to add to it- hypo, caramel, lavender? Lots of possibilities!

Can't wait to see what kind of crazy things you have up your sleeve this year!

Thanks man, yes the Potions are prettier on their own I must admit. I still do think the Super Mystic is considerably more valuable however purely because it's genetic potential is more powerful than a Potion. There's no possible conflict using the Super Mystic but that may not always be the case for the Potions when they are bred out. It will all depend on which way the Potions are bred out I think.

I just will be happy with a few good results this year, the Mystic project is still very young even for me ! This year I hope to just make a couple new things and by next season I should have more stuff ready to line up and fill in what I likely won't be able to make this year. It takes time and I'm just going to have to wait for some of this to come together like I'm thinking it should. Alot of folks will be making cool stuff with the Mystics this year and I am excited to see what they make!

Take care Garrick, best of luck this season with the odds!
