Question about hypos

johnnyd5844 Apr 17, 2010 09:00 AM

Hi. I recently got a hypo female to breed to my male. She is still to young and I will have to wait till next year to breed them. But my question is there a chance of any of the babies being hypos? She has all 20 clear nails and my male has all black nails. Here are some pictures of them. What do you think the babies would be like? Is there a chance of them looking like their dad?
male

hypo female. she has a little more yellow that the camera cant pick up.

you sure can, as long as your male is a het for hypo-
either way with that pair you'll get super nice pretty little buugards

Ok thanks. Is there any way to tell if he is het for hypo?

you need to know who produced him and ask them if he's a het.
other than that there's no visual markers to identify hets.

Ok thanks. The problem is I got him from a pet store as a baby and I don't know the breeder. Guess I will have to wait and see.

You can breed them together and, if, you get any hypos (20 clear nails) you will know he is het for hypo. Otherwise, that breeding pair would produce all het hypo animals.

As for the coloring, beardies are polymorphic creatures. Basically, meaning that they produce a blend of the parents coloring. So, since you have two yellow dragons you can expect some yellow babies. Though, you will see some variation. I.e. some may be very yellow, some yellowish, etc. etc.

Ok thanks. So you are saying if he isnt het for hypo, all of the babies will be het for hypo?

Wow thats a bad Lookin' Citrus!I need one like that to breed to one of mine. Its hard to find a High Yellow/Lavander bar beardie.

It will produce phenominal babies, but Stick to "citrus yellows", the yellows will magnify even more through the babies.

If you insist on going red, go extreme... But I wouldnt.

There is no visual marker for Het's only trust within the breeder.

If you breed him with a Het You will probably get (75% Hypos out of the klutches). A Non-Hypo will result in (25%-50% Hypos in the klutch) But the ones without clear nails will all be HET for HYPO hatchlings.

Who did you get him from???

Actually, the BEAUTIFUL male is not the hypo...it's the duller colored female. So his babies will be het for hypo with her unless he himself is het for hypo...then you would get a certain percentage of hypos.

Thanks for the help everyone. I got the male from a pet store as a baby. He wasn't as nicely colored when he was younger, but developed great colors as he aged. Guess I got REALLY lucky when I got him. What would you suggest I breed him to? Do you think the female I have now will produce bright looking babies like the dad, or should I look for something brighter like a super citrus? Thanks again.

Breeding a hypo to a non hypo shouldnt result in any hypos. You would get 100% hets.

chris allen Apr 18, 2010 11:28 PM

Should have rephrased, breeding a hypo to a non hypo, non het wouldn't result in any hypo, just hets.

You never know, maybe the male you have will prove out to be a het. Won't know though until you breed him.
