question about mites

trsatrtr Apr 17, 2010 02:24 PM

I have discovered mites on my iguana. I can't figure out where she would have come in contact with them. I have been researching and have read several articles but most seem to focus on treating snakes. Any one have experience treating iguanas for mites? I just want to find the best and safest way to treat her. I cleaned her cage last night and removed all the decorations. I also soaked her and sprayed her with miteoff. She only tolerates minimal handleing so this was quite fun.

my pair gets mites every yr i just fully cover them in mineral oil head to toe and just leave it on. its 100% safe and works every time. this can be hard to do my male is 22 lbs and does not like to be handled to much and when hes covered hes like greased pig but it worth it. keep cage clean and baron for at least a few months. newspaper only.

Thanks! I tried the mineral oil and so far it seems to have worked. It has been about three days and I still don't see any mites. I also took her cage apart and cleaned everything with a bleach water solution. She is in a reptarium so that was actually pretty easy. She tolerated the whole thing better than I thought. Do you use provent a mite? I treated my snake cages with the the provent a mite and I didn't know if I should treat hers to. I haven't seen any mites on my snakes but they are in the same room as her.

i think the snake mites might be different but i could be wrong id keep and eye on them. after i do the mineral oil treatment i spray the cage down with. pro vent a mite my cage is a room so i can only clean it so good. this seems to work great for me. but if u cleaned everything real good they should be gone, but they can be a real pain. water kills them as well but this only works on the cage. make sure with the mineral oil u get it everywhere like the wrinkles and around the eyes but not in them those bastards will hide good.
