A quick question.
Does a female snake need to be bred, before she will ovulate?
And does ovulation only occur if the eggs are fertile?

Thanks

No,.....colubrids ovulate(develops egg folicles) THEN breeds afterwards for them to go onto be viable(good) eggs.

Ok thanks
Is it the same with pythons and boas?

Yes, I know Boa constrictors are stimulated from the males presence and "courting" with the body-squeezing and "tickling" of the male's spurs, or claws along her back to produce ova(egg follicles)within the female. Then the male later fertilizes them AFTER they have moved down her oviducts and she is swelled with them.

Same goes for the Pythons too, but I don't think the male needs to be with her for as long a duration with stimulating her to develop the egg follicles. But the male's do still use their spurs to "tickle" the female into submission. I have witnessed all of this first-hand with both boas and pythons alike. It his really something to behold!..LOL!
