I hate it when that happens!

Thursday night I fed the snakes F/T mice, getting ready to leave town for the weekend. My wife and I left Friday afternoon for a weekend get-a-way to the coast.

Saturday, my daughter texted me and said "the snake cages stink really bad." I just thought one of them had pooped, and replied that I would clean when I got back.

Today we got home and when we walked in, it smelled like a mixture of lysol spray, and something slightly familiar. Could figure it out. Did a quick look, and didn't see any fresh poop in any of the cages.

Finally I realized it was that slightly sweet, sick smell of decomposition. I quickly realized what had happened. One of the cornsnakes had pushed her mouse under her hide box, and not eaten it.

So that cage has been disinfected, and all windows opened to air the place out!

My wife and daughter are very patient with my hobby!

Yeah, well, it could have been far worse I guess. Like when I went out of town for two weeks and just after I left, the breaker was tripped on my garage with a big freezer full of about a thousand rodents and several pounds of Ladyfish and shrimp for fishing bait!!

Let me tell ya,.......the smell I had to deal with when I got back home at 2:00 am would have made a maggot puke his guts out!!. All the bags that were chock-full of rodents and fish were now putrified into brown liquid!!, and the stench permeated our entire dwelling for several days even after all the windows and fans were on 24/7.

Oh!, did I forget to mention that right after I told my girlfriend to put the damn bag of rotten brown sludge back into the freakin freezer and close the lid so I can take the entire thing outside and I'll deal with all of it in the morning, she then proceeded to pull one of the huge ziplock bags of brown mush that were once XXXLG Breeder rats out upside down and it blew out all over the freakin garage floor!. People,...I was so pi$$ed I could have manually choked her to death!!!!

Let me just say I can't remember the last time I was ever that mad!...seriously........it was EVERYWHERE!!!. Oh what a fun night that was my friends!

I had to stick my head far down into the freezer too the next day to pull all the bags outside on the lawn to toss into tripled-up hefty bags, and I was gagging my BRAINS OUT while doing this, along with said girlfriend who I made hold the bags open while I tossed them in..... between gags and eyes watering of course!. This was the most horrific stench I have ever experienced in my entire life, and I will NEVER forget that experience either as long as I live.......PERIOD!!LOL!

Of course this happened just after re-ordering tons of mice and huge rats too......ARRRGH!

Anyway, your "one mouse" problem doesn't sound so huge now, does it..LOL!..

regards, ~Doug

Nope, one little rotten mouse is no big deal after reading your story! I think I would have considered changing hobbies after that!

I had a mouse order get stuck behind a blizzard for about 3-5 days. That was messy, but at least no liquidification. And then there was the freezer that died (just...bit the dust). Mice, pizzas, ice cream....
