Here's my grey rat - Nubby

shadylady Apr 20, 2010 07:53 PM

This is Nubby. I found him about a month ago in the woods behind my house. I think one of my cat's had gotten a hold of him. He had some really cruddy looking places all over him, especially in tail. You can see them in the first pic the day I found him. He was going into shed at the time. I rinsed him daily for a week or so with very weak iodine solution. After a week, he started to try to shed, but never got very far so I placed him in a deli cup with damp spagnum. The next day he still hadn't shed, so I increased the water in the spagnum. The next day he had shed half way. I decided to help him. When I got to below his vent the shed didn't want to come off. I gave a little tug and CRIMINY!! the skin came off!!! After freaking for a moment or two, I decided to just snip it off. It didn't bleed much at all. He has been eating great. Just had another shed without any trouble and I can barely see any marks from the injuries.

I think the thing I like the most about the greys is their eyes. They're ghostly looking.

Second pic is from just now.

Good work! Sounds like he'll be just fine. Yep, the eyes and face on Grays is an especially attractive feature to me.
