Anybody breed these?

a153fish Apr 21, 2010 02:54 PM

I have a female Bubblegum. The male died early on, and this one gave me trouble too. However she seems to be doing good now. She is still very nrevous and eats when she wants to not when I want her to, lol.

Hey Jorge, I actually saw some baby bubblegums at the Repticon show in Pensacola. They were advertised as Albino Glades rats, but when I spoke to the vendor about them he said they were actually bubblegums. I assume they were the amel mix of yellow, glades, and black?? Nice snake man!! Breed her to a corn LOL!!

Yeah she's already a frankenstein snake, lol. I put her with an everglades male I have.

I saw a few at the San Mateo show a couple of weeks ago. Those are a cross that's been around for awhile, but never seems to have "caught on."

Yeah I was very reluctant to buy them but the guy had an adult sitting on the table just as calm as could be and the colors were very attractive. I was unsure but my wife fell in love with it. I was hoping to see some pics from other people sinve I imagine these can vary quite a bit.

The only problem with the bubblegums is that they are so variable in coloration. I quess it depends on what mix was used to create them. Some may even have corn in them?? Shrug. Thats the problem with hybrids, the succeeding generations may look nothing like the adults that produced them.

Here's a pair that I had several years ago. The female is in the top photo and in shed. The male (bottom pic) was almost all yellow with red splotches. Like you said, there's quite a bit of variability.

Thanks for the pics, I really like that pink one! Yeah even the female I have doesn't look the same as the parent the guy had at the show.

Tim, was it albinism from a black rat that was added to the mix, or from a yellow rat? Possibly even cornsnake??

DMong Apr 23, 2010 01:25 AM

Yeah Kevin. It was the amel Black Rat that was introduced into the Yellow Rat x Everglades x Black Rat to later make a homozygous albino product of all three. Bill Love started these in about circa 1990.

As everyone mentioned, they can be HIGHLY variable, and they can be anything from light and pale with a barely discernible pattern, to VERY pink, or pinkish/orange with strong blotching. I have seen some a friend of mine had years ago that were more of a solid pink as well.

Here is a real nice looking one a lady picked up from a rescue center a couple years ago.
