Can anyone provide me with a logical reason for why there are such vast price differences in these animals? For instance, on leopardgecko.com there are designers listed at $200 and then there is one for $30. Then there is also a "normal" for only $20. The cheap ones are better looking in my opinion, too. I am sure that factors into the price some how but surely not a price difference of that much. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

they vary so much because the $200 ones are adults and are very nice, and the $30 are younger and there is no way to tell if they will be nice or not.

ok, i understand the adult vs. juvenile argument. however, when you say "nice", are you refering to temperment or ending coloration or what? Thanx again.

What she means by "nice" is that leos worth $200 or more are much more colorful than others, very hardy, long-living, tame, and more positive backgrounds cover them. So far, it seems to me that carrot-tailed ones are the most expensive of all, since the most breeder sites I've visited have them available at the cost around 200-800 dollars.

What you see selling today for $500 will probably be common finds in the future, and then newer trends will settle in. People try to produce a certain color/pattern, and then everybody wants to get a hold of some of those genes.

The price range has many factors age has already been stated and by nice I think he meant that on hatchlings you don't always know what the adults will look like because the pattern and color change greatly in some animals but I could be way off base so we'll wait to see his response. Another big factor is the hard work of breeders. Some of the colors took years and years of selective breeding to develop. Truthfully $200 is by no means an expensive leopard gecko, take a look at albeysreptiles.com or AMgecko.com if you want to see something pricey. Everyone has there own favorite morph and therefor is willing to pay a little extra for it, the main reason for low prices on animals such as normals is that they have been breed by so many different breeders and have flooded the market so many breeders need to sell them for anything they can get just to make room for new projects.

I like the normals, too.
