My new acquisition

Nothing too amazing, but I think I got a good deal so I'm happy.

A coupla months ago one of the area's Petsmarts got a Mexican black kingsnake along with several other snakes. Attractive snake, no speckling, but at $79.99 I wouldn't buy it.

Well, I went in today to get some bird food -- and they had marked down several of their snakes. They had the black king marked down to $55, so of course I couldn't resist.

They also had an "apricot" Pueblan marked down **$30** bucks, and if it had really been apricot I might have come home with it too. But it was actually just barely yellow rather than nice and orangey, so I passed!

Anyway -- I've been following the kingsnake.com classifieds for black Mexicans lately, and I think I did well price-wise (especially since I didn't have to pay shipping). And I handled the guy before buying, to make sure he isn't a spazz. Nice calm snake. I'm happy!

Yeah,......with no shipping cost, you did pretty good there!

I know what you mean about people calling very typical Pueblan's "apricots". Some of the ads and specimens at shows I see are just plain ridiculous, and aren't anything CLOSE being apricot.

Enjoy that nice MBK!. I sorta wish I still had this nice one, but hey, if it's one thing that is true about this hobby,.....ya can't keep everything!..

And I even posted it in the right forum this time!

I do think that shiny onyx blackness is awfully attractive. Not that I needed a black snake, but what the heck.

Poor guy, the instant I put him in his new box he jumped right into his water dish. I didn't even notice at the store, but he must have been dry for awhile!

Cool beans on the find. I find I am definitely paying more attention to whats available at the local big chain pet stores when I go in for dog food, etc. I am finding more and more comparable prices especially without shipping costs. Plus you can do a hands on inspection and most of the staff are pretty honest on the feeding issues of the animals. My only gripe is with the identification of the animals for sale some of the time, just like your "apricot" pueblan experience. That and they are buying wholesale off brokers, etc. who may not be representing the animals accurately and the chains are just calling it what they purchased it as. Still, even a normal pueblan at $30 is pretty good without shipping cost associated with it!!

Good luck on the new critters!
