What happed to FLAVIRUFUS???

crotalusviridis1 Apr 21, 2010 11:42 PM

Hi everybody,
been away from the varanid scene for several years. I used to have two triple crosses (hybrid sand monitors) that I had to get rid of a while back, due to moving circumstances. Recently the bug has come back and again I am interested in finding some. Problem is, I can't seem to find anyone who is producing them. Not necessarily triple crosses, but just flavis or gouldis in general. Not looking for argus. Back around 04 or so, it seemed like they could be easily had. I got mine from BRRR (black river reptiles and rodents), what happened to them? Or Andrew Owen of varanus creations? Even ben seigel had them..... Where have all the flavis gone? Thanks
Eric

Hello,

Several people I know of have Flavirufus including myself and to a lesser extent gouldii. So by no means have they vanished from the scene of varanid keeping.

Cheers,
Mike.

I know FR is probably sitting on several dozen of them, but does he ever sell them? Is Anyone else producing them who sells hatchlings? I'm sure there are, but I have been out of the loop for a few years now. And how much do they sell for now? When I got mine from BRRR, I believe they were only around $200-250ish, and that was for the tri cross, as I'm sure pure would be more pricey.
Thanks again
eric

Posting wanted adds on the classifieds here is an alright way to find some. Argus/Flavi or Argus/Gouldi crosses are much more common than Flavi/Gouldi or triple crosses and especially pure Flavi or Gouldi. I don't know the going price for crosses but for Flavi or Gouldi you can expect a $750 range.

Cheers,
Mike.

Hi Eric. I do have adult flavis, several are gravid now, several gouldi, and only one cross female. All will lay sometime soon, but in the last few years I have not dug many up.

Apparently, not many others are producing enough to have to sell them using adds. Most disappear without much fanfare.

I most likely will dig some of each up this year. Cheers

Well please dig them up haha! Myself and another guy I know would be interested possibly. Depending on what the asking price is. Frank, from you experience what species stay smaller, gouldi or flavi? Thanks for posting

Hi Eric, the flavis I have are about the same size as the gouldi, I have. The gouldi stock I have, were from Riverbanks zoo, via Dallas zoo. They are very small.

In nature there are indeed larger gouldi races. Cheers
