2nd2nonedragons Apr 22, 2010 02:20 PM

Hi I have a female dragon that I have been consistenlty trying to breed for the past three months, out of all my females she has not once been gravid or layed eggs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It will be useful to know details about your dragon. How old is she? Is she housed with the male constantly or just introduced to the male over the last several months? How old is the male? Has he bred other females? Is he even showing interest in her? What are their weights and current health? Did you cool either this past winter? Has she been bred before?

Details of your setup and/or a picture will also be useful.

Females will not just lay eggs because they have been bred. They need to form eggs for the male to fertilize during copulation. generally, most females produce eggs in the early spring after brumation. Did your female brumate?

She has bred before, and I did not brumate her when I brumated my other dragons because she was underweight.

If still underweight or only just getting to a good weight, that's probably why she didn't cycle any eggs. Most animals won't produce offspring if they are in poor health (ie being underweight etc) so they dont' waste their resources. I would just keep her separated, feed her and cycle her in the fall to breed next year.
